Used oil analysis baselines <5000 miles

I did a change at 1k and sent it off and again at 5k. There was quite a difference in the metals beween the two on the report. probably overkill and a “waste” to some but worth it to me and it’s cheap.

Cool. What oil are your running?

I'm running Kendall (I know you weren't asking me) for no other reason than just to try something different, and have been since the factory oil. I'm at 80k now. I do oil changes after 8k based more on when I have time after that point as opposed to any specific mileage. It gets done usually around 9k. I should get a sample done just for kicks, but I'm not reallly worried about anything.

Kendall makes good oil. I have a buddy that is on a Pro Stock team. They pour out the"car sponsored" oil and refill the drums with Kendall. [emoji23] That should tell you something.

The engine under a lot of heat soak would rattle on acceleration. I thought it was a heatshield for a while but then convinced myself it was bottom end. Tech heard it with me on test drive then replaced cam shafts to no avail.



He could replicate it by applying volts to the engine on the lift. I'm still unsure how that works.



Car ran perfect after the short block.

Looks like a ton of blow by. I'm thinking there was a machining problem with the block or bad rings. Is so evenly deposited so not like you can pinpoint a specific cylinder or anything. Strange.

I've been running Mobil 1 AFE 0W20. On this last oil change, I switched to Amsoil Signature 0W20 (and on the 50k oil change I'll have them run TBN for me).

A couple of years ago I came across a thread on Bob is the oil guy where someone posted a virgin oil analysis of the Toyota 0w-20 synthetic oil. I will try to find that later.

I hope you do find the 2016 Toyota engine oil analysis installed in Japan on these runners ..

MY 2016 HAD SLUDGE IN THAT JAPANESE OIL ... NO sludge now after I dumped that oil @3K miles ..Mobil syn 0-20wt no problems and perhaps a couple of OZ of oil consumed @7K oil changes ..
very hard to read the dip stick the oil is so clear..

I did contact the dealership . made a complaint about my new engine had sludge build up under the oil fill cap . oct2016. so he said Toyota was changing from conventional to synthetic oils .. but he did not know for sure if my 2016 had conventional in it.

I then told him the only time I saw sludge under my oil fill cap was 20 yrs ago as at the time ,, I stopped using conventional oils ..

again my 4 runner now has no crap under the fill cap zero perfectly clean
Mobil synthetic works best for me for 20 yrs now . and my other vehicles are old 19-23 yrs old .. still running strong very small oil use 1/3 qt ..

I would like to see a lab report on that factory Toyota engine oil back in 2016 ...

You are correct on that. Toyota 0W20 made by Mobil and is most likely repackaged Mobil One.

Since the 4Runner is built and shipped from Japan it's hard to say what exact oil is in them.

As far as the other question on if the 2016s came with synthetic oil, since the cap says 0W20 it should be synthetic.

Yes, that is the used Mobil 1 0W20 AFE in my latest sample.

I will certainly post my UOA results when I hit 50k. I figure my OCD nature might as well benefit the other T4R owners/drivers here.
