Using bed liner on entire body?

The clear coat on my roof is starting to fade and disappear. The herpes is even creeping to the top of my doors.

Most body shops want between $500 and $1,000 to repaint it.

I'm starting to think that I should just have the entire body shot with Line-X or Rhino Liner .

Does anyone work at a body shop/ truck shop that would have any advice on my situation?

Ive seen it done on a Toyota T-100 and it looked aweful up close to me personally since the rubbery grain is so spread apart and flat looking. I would try to find someone that has done it so u can see it before u attempt bc once u do it there isnt any way to go back really. Also u will have to worry out the black fading form the uv in the sunlight.
 
Yeah, I think that would look really bad. Perhaps you could consider just lining the roof, but the UV issue could be a big problem.
 
it looks bad if you wax ur truck on the reg. for those that go through the woods. do it. its awesome. my friend did it to his dodge 1500 and he drives wherever he wants on his property. its actually a little abrasive on the trees he brushes by . . .

Pro's and cons for sure.
I have an FJ40 with it EVERYWHERE.
sounds good if you are wheeling it and dont care about rubbing things.
and you can actually grab some rattle can first of the season and make it look new again.

But, it hides rust and is hard to take off. I wish my 40 didn't have it cuase its making it harder to sell.

sure has a purpose and can sure protect you rig, but I dont think I would do it all over. my .02 cents. I wouldnt do it on my runner though.
 
What about taking a rattle can of clear coat? If all you're wanting to do is stop the spreading down to your doors, I'd try that before I rino-line the whole thing.

I have a friend who bumped the support beam in the parking garage with her front bumper, and the paint is starting to chip. She asked me to cover it with some leftover clear coat that I used for my wheels, but I haven't done it yet. Anyone know if that would work okay?
 
spraying a bed liner all over your rig will be way more $$$ and i think that the $500-1000 to repaint the clear is a damn good deal. a friend of mine owns a couple auto body shops here in the portland metro area and to have my runner repainted completly would be almost $6000 and that would be getting costs at his price. most of the cost is in labor not materials, and that goes for the spray on bead liners as well.

you could spray it easily with several coats if you had 2 gallons of raptor upol btw I'm talking about the entire truck.

thats about $200

now this isnt to say it cant be done cause im sure it can... but i have yet to see a "spray in/on" type bedliner that looks good that was a none shop done like lineX or Rhino Liner ect. im sure it can be done... also as far as those liners go i thought about that for a while with one of my truck and talked to a few shops and they said black is the only color they knew of or had seen that hadnt faded or been affected by UV light from the sun -all the colors fade out or discolor... i still think having a shop respray it would be best.

Everybody that saw mine in person loved it...it looked professionally done and trust me I have no professional bedlining skills. Thats Upol on all 3 pics in post 7. I need to clear this up. I didn't spray the 3rd pic. It was done by the owner.

Also the best thing to keep it from fading is to paint it. Everything on my 4runner now that I bedlined looks great 9 months after spay painting the color of my choice.

However, like the kid said, I believe a shop spraying it would possibly be a little more durable but what I sprayed on my 4runner is holding up fine.

like i said im sure it can be done... just havent seen one (till now that is a good job) -looks great, i would of thought it was a professional job :trophy:

keep in mind, its a little faded and has never been washed. this was done for functionality not too look cool . . .
