Well for those of you who know me you know I have a galactic grey 05 SR5 4runner. I decided to do the DRL relay upgrade so that I would have DRL's and then I saw this on the V-Led site:
<object width="445" height="364"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/aLDmlT12UUA&hl=en&fs=1&border=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/aLDmlT12UUA&hl=en&fs=1&border=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="445" height="364"></embed></object>
I wanted it for my 4Runner! I purchased the LED's and installed them, only to find that the amber side worked GREAT but the white side was not. Closer inspection of the socket itself revealed that the socket only powered the amber side. there wasn't a way to activate the white side. (I suspect that the 4Runners with the 3 lead sockets will not have this issue)
I pulled the socket and did some testing. If I could get 12 volts to the white lead it would work and function properly (as advertised)
I used some solid strand wire and I ran it into the same hole as the lead for the white side of the led and I soldered it in place. Then I drilled a small hole through the the bottom of the socket and threaded the wire out and attached a spade connector. I used a silicone sealant to fill and seal the holes.
I then tapped into the parking lights for my 12 volts and ran a male spade connector down to the Side marker socket and attached it to the Female connector coming from it.
When I am out driving around without my lights on My DRL's are Amber. Turn on the lights and they go White! turn on the turn signal and they go amber....
