(V6 4X4 or V8 4X2) What would you do...?

Say your buying a new 2006 4Runner Limited and you have two options due to money constrainents...

Option A: You get the V6 model but with 4X4

Option B : You get the V8 model but with 4X2

What would you do and why?

V6 4x4 because I give my friend shit about having a 2wd 4runner. (JOKINGLY)

I'd go with 4WD. I don't off-road - it's just for better handling in the winter. I don't tow anything, either, so I could live without V8 if I had to.

I would go v6 also. I don't see the point of an non 4x4 SUV.

If that is the ONLY 2 options you have than I'd go w/ the v6 4wd. You never know where you can possibly end up... and where you could possibly get stuck. However, if you already are conisdering a limited, why not spend 1200 bucks more on a V8. At that point you can go anywhere and tow anything 2 months or 2 years from now. Just don't want you to do what I did and originally get a v6 2wd, regret it for about a year, and then sell it for a 4wd V8. Do it right the first time. hope that insight helps a bit.

Having 4wd is much more important than the engine choice to me. Hell, I'd take a 4 cylinder 4Runner (if they made it) that was 4wd over a 2wd V6 or V8 version.

If I wanted something with rear wheel drive, I wouldn't buy a 4Runner.

I agree with Fourty-Four , I would go to a 4 cyl. before giving up my 4x4. Im personally would never buy a 2x4 truck or SUV , for me and what I like there would be no point to a 4x2.

No offense to the 4x2 owners like yourself. Everyone has to get what work's best for them.

Since you already have a 2wd V8 limited , are you second guessing your purchase ?

hard to say...depends on what my mission is going to be with the rig. You can get a damn lot of places with just 2wd; alot more than people realize.

V6 4x4, because it's what I got. :

Just kidding, it really depends on what you'll need the truck for. I snowboard and I don't want to deal with chains, so I got 4x4. I thought about getting a 2WD as well, but 1) Limiteds in my region are 4x4 (only 2WD are SR5 V6s), 2) rather have 4WD and not need it, and 3) might want to take it off road some day.

At the moment I only use my 4Runner to drive in the city, but I occasionally will use it to tow a couple of my jet ski

i own a 4x2 V8. my truck is a work horse, not a rodeo horse. meaning, i don't go off-roading with it. i haul people and equipment...comfortably. the V8 is excellent, even with 3 other people and a trunk full of gear. don't need the 4x4 if you're a city slicker. with that said, i do believe that you should get what you want and be happy with it. if you really want the 4x4 then go for it. life is too short for regrets.

but to answer the original question, i'd get the V8 4x2, because i have one and i'm bias.

anyone shits you for having a 4x2, ask them if they have a V8.
if they have a V8 and a 4x4, tell them to "go to hell" and to "stop showing off."

2wd SUV is useless. Go v6 4x4. Tho I have a V8, the V6 is plenty powerful for whatever you need, even towing most stuff. Consider resale too, more people want 4x4 so you will have an easier time when/if you want to sell.

I didn't want to get the 4X4 mainly because I've never been off roading before and I figured why pay more for something I wont use. Plus I don't think I would want to take a new car into a situation where it might get scratched or hurt in anyway.

Okay, two quick points:

1- Most people only make the mistake of buying a 2wd truck or SUV once. Then later if they end up regretting their choice, they buy either the same vehicle with 4wd or an entirely different 4wd vehicle. I've never once heard anyone say that they were sorry they chose the 4wd, but I've heard the opposite time and time again.

2- You don't need to offroad (or take your new vehicle into a situation where it will get scratched) to take advantage of 4wd. I realize that you live in Arizona, so you probably don't have to deal with snow very often, but being from New York, snow is a way of life every winter for me. The first time that the 4wd prevents me from getting stuck, it justifies my choice in my mind. A 4wd 4Runner is nearly unstoppable in the snow, even with the stock tires! Much better than some of the other SUVs and trucks I've owned in the past.
