V6 oil leak?

89 v6

I have an oil leak coming from behind the AC pump.

Could there be a faulty gasket where that mounts to the block? Does oil run through there to lubricate a pump bearing or something?

The leak is lower than the valve cover, above the oil pan, passenger side. First visible spot is on the AC pump body itself up between the pump and the engine block.

This is not a drip, but a dribble.
Anybody been in that area before? What am I looking for here?

Ok, it's too cold to go outside and look at mine, but I can tell you that oil doesn't flow thru or connect in any way to the AC comp.

Ok, it wouldn't help for me to look at my truck anyway, I just re-read and you have the V6. But the above still applies.

Are you sure it is not the power steering pump leaking they are known for it and is right above the AC pump. mine does and will be replaced in the spring.

Ok,
I guess you have to just get up in there and figure it out.

Thought I'd start by pulling the psteering pump. I guess you have to pull off the wheel to remove the pump itself.

Then I guess you have to remove the radiator to remove the wheel to remove the ps pump.

To make a long story short, it turns out to be a bad oil seal on the passenger side cam shaft.

I figured I'd do both sides since I'm in there. Timing belt looks fine, I'm not planning on messing with that. Should hopefully be a straight forward fix. If anybody has any experience or advice on the matter it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

It is some wrenching to get to it. have you been in there before?
If so I don't have to tell you about it.....if not there is a whole host of stuff to replace while in there.

Let me know.

Well I got to the point I figured I'd call in for help. I was afraid to mess with the timing belt and on limited time. So I took to the shop.

They replaced:
Timing belt
Water pump
Oil seals on both camshafts
#2 idler pulley

Got it back from the shop yesterday.

The timing is off and now the Temp gauge starts up at halfway right from the get go (cold start).

I'm going back to the shop today to reset timing and I have no idea about the temp gauge thing.

Please any knowledge or experience here would be helpful. Including what you were going to tell me about (Mikes4runner).

Thank you. Oh yeah, leaks fixed, YEAH!
