V6 or V8

I tried searching the forum for this topic because I have a feeling I'm not the first person to bring it up, I just couldn't get the search to bring anything up. So I was hoping to get some direction.

I am looking at two 4Runners right now. One is 04 4x4 V8 (86k miles) limited and the other is a 06 4x4 V6 (98k miles)sport. I don't have a boat to haul or anything, the most I would tow is a trailer to move or something like that.

I've heard that V8 offer a little better longevity due to the power band being at a lower rpm.

The only other difference between the two is that I like some of the cosmetics of the sport, its white with black leather interior which I like better than the silver with silver leather interior

Have you driven both the V6 and V8 for comparison? I've always been a V8 guy and I wish Toyota would have an optional V8 available on the Tacomas. I would be all over that!

My brother went through the same dilemma 2yrs ago and in the end he ended up with an AWD V8 and he's glad that I convinced him to get the bigger engine.
 
5th gen V6. More power than the 4th V8 and better gas mileage than the 4th V6.

5th gen is cheaply made and doesn't have half the capability of a 4th gen V8 (towing & isn't as bulletproof).

Anyways OP the V8 is superior to the V6. They are just as reliable but the V8 has much more of a punch and towing capability. Plus there are many cases of V6 head gaskets blowing.

Regarding your last sentence, I do hope that it was a joke. Sure, it has better gas mileage but the 4th gen V8 blows it away in power.

5000 is well over 1/2 of 7000. Curious how you quantify bulletproof... other than your unrelenting bias.

I was trolling a bit, but what I said is true. The 5th gen 1GR makes more peak power than the UZ. When the pedal goes to the floor, the 5th gen V6 is right there with a 4th gen V8. Towing is a different story because of the V8s great low end torque. You'll be revving the V6 a bit. It is really a shame that Toyota tuned the throttle to be so lazy. The 1GR has some balls... especially if you play around in sport mode and keep those revs up.
