If I had to do it again I would probably go with the V8 Limited. I'm more then happy with my V6 though. It goes above and beyond my expectations everyday.

Although the V6 is more than enough motor for the 4Runner, I would choose/buy the V8 everytime.

In all honesty, I could live with the V6 IF it didn't sound like crap. I don't know why these 4.0L's sound so ugly under load, but they do.....in the Taco's too.

The older 3.4L V6 sounded dead sexy by comparison

Ohhhhh boy! Here we go with this 150+ reply thread of a topic again.
Most here know that I am pro V-6 and a non-XRAggy man. I'm happy with my V-6 engine. I am about to dual the exhaust system just to muffle down the ratty tat-tat aluminum sweet chin music engine noise!
I also like the fact that I can still have 2wd. You can really feel the difference in thrust between the 2wd and 4wd mode. Errrrr, I don't believe you V-8 owners have that option of selecting your drive mode eh!! ;): :p

True, and am very good point. But, while we never have to worry about shifting from 2wd to 4wd (which I like), we V8 owners also dont have to worry about the Boston acoustic drum section that plays under the hood of the V6's;): :D . The V6 just sounds like it struggles constantly and doesnt purrrrr like my V8. I think the V6 is fine for the Tacoma because its a truck, but come on, an engine shouldnt sound like that in a 4Runner:eek:

V6. I've one and I'm happy with it. NO problems and enough power for towing 7000lbs boat.

Be careful towing 7K lbs., that is way over the recommended tow rate and dangerous.
