V6 vs v8 reliability

Hi all, newbie here. I was looking at a new wrangler but life made some changes and now I'm looking to buy a used runner. What are your opinions of the v6 vs v8 on these. I've heard that the v8 is basically bulletproof but haven't heard much of anything on the 6. Anything else I should be aware of on a 4th gen runner?

Both have gone 500k+ without a rebuild and I highly doubt 98% of us will get up there before trading up or buying something new.

Both are good engines, some say V8 is better but i dont think it would be better by that much that it would make a significant difference. Both are reliable engines and will provide you years of trouble free

Which one is more reliable is a non-issue when both are very reliable engines. One may be slightly better than the other.

Consider what you are going to do wiht your vehicle. If you are going to tow a lot, get the V8, if not, get the V6. That is my opinion, to keep things simple for your decision making

The V6 was a new engine. the V8 was used in the Land Cruiser for several years before coming to the T4R.

There have been several reports of head gaskets going bad on the V6. No issues I'm aware of with the V8.

The V8 has a belt you'll need to replace every 90k miles or so. About $500 to pay someone to do it. No need for that in the V6.

V6 gets a few MPG better.

I've owned both engines. I currently have a V6 in my 4th gen, and I had a V8 in my 100 series Land Cruiser.

Fact of the matter is that both engines have adequate power for everyday driving and 4-wheeling. If you need to tow a lot or for great distances, get the V8.

Both have their quirks maintenance-wise, such as the ridiculous placement of the starter on the V8.... and exhaust manifold problems, but none are deal-breakers. They are both reliable and good engines if maintained.
