V8 Bilstein 5100 2.5" front and Toytec Superflex rear???

Been running Bilstein 5100's and FJ 4x4 coils in all four corners for a couple of years. Front is set at 1.75". Here's how she sits.

Measurements (they actually INCREASED slightly over when I first installed these because of the slightly taller tires):

DF - 36
PF - 36 1/4
DR - 36 1/2
PR - 37

Been thinking about setting the front at 2.5" with the same coils and putting in Toytec Superflex coils in the rear. I understand that I should gain about 2 inches in the rear with the superflex coils. Not sure how much will be gained at the front though. The front did not come out as high as many people thought it would back when they were first installed with 265/70/17 BFG clones (35 5/8, 35 3/4, 36 5/8, 36 7/8). Many had recommended the 0.85" setting and thought I would end up with a bro lift with 1.75" and were surprised by how it turned out.

Anyways, anyone has a V8 and is running 5100 up front with stock or FJ springs at the 2.5 setting and Toytec superflex coils in the rear? Would love to see the pictures.

I think some of you are going to suggest using the FJ coils on the truck now with a daystar 1.5 spacer in the rear, or going all out and getting the superflex for the rear and 885 up front to work with the billies all around :)

Thoughts?

I know that MOMO.75 is running OME coils in the front with 5100's and Toytec Superflex in the rear on his V8. Maybe he will see this and comment.

That's my setup. 5100s all around, front at 2.5 with FJ coils, superflex in the back (they're great). I also added LR UCAs to maintain factory alignment specs. I gained 3" up front and 2" in the back. Here's a few level ground pics...

And now some FLEX...

Here's one that shows the ground clearance...

Thanks for the responses guys!

Geologist - nice looking truck! I like how it stands and I know those superflex add to the rear wheel articulations. Your runner appears to be a v6? I don't know whether I'll be able to get the 3" you did at the front with a v8?

Casper421 - that would be ideal I know. What are the specific advantages running bilsteins with OME in the front vs. using the adjustability of the bilsteins themselves to lift? I guess with the shocks set at the highest setting, the coils are super compressed, which might cause less travel and stiffer ride? But when using the OME coils only to achieve the lift, the coils are not so compressed and travel better??

And Geologist, were you not able to keep your alignment within factory specs so that you had to put the LR UCA's on? I thought those would become sort of necessity only if you went over 3"?

Yup, you nailed it.

Thanks! Mine is a V8. I got a little plasti-dip happy with the front grill. I agree with Casper, if you can afford the better coils up front do it. The ride is definitely stiff, but not harsh on the road. Very little flex off road tho. I was on a tight budget when I did my lift.
I put the UCAs on at the same time (got them used) so I can't speak to ride quality without them. Those were more for peace of mind. I'm not the only one who drives the runner, if ya know what I mean. The handling on the highway before the lift was crappy at best. Really 'floaty'. It's slightly better now.

I've got a set of 885's and a 1/2" spacer giving around 3.25" lift on 5100's. the ride is stiffer than the xreas but it feels more truck like and I appreciate that ride a lot more than a soft one. And it's better to do it right the first time...so I've heard.

Why using the 1/2" spacer with the 885's instead of setting it on the 0.85" notch? Using the 0.85" notch would've yielded too much lift? What amount of lift do you think you would've had with just the 885's sitting on the lowest setting on the bilsteins, without the 1/2" spacer? Did you have to swap out the UCA's at 3.25" front lift?

885's with a V8 yield about 2.75", I got an extra 1/2" with the spacer. I installed LR uca's with the body lift almost 8 months after the lift was put on. Using the spacer kept all the travel of the shock.

Was the spacer part number 25912? Did you have problem getting alignment within specs without the LR UCA's? Those are expensive :(

It's the Toytec 1/2" spacer. I was able to get alignment back to stock specs but the uca's definitely improved the ride. They're worth it, just wait for metaltech to put them on sale. That's how I got them for $375 shipped.

Thanks for the info. I will keep an eye out. Did you have to relocate the swaybar?

Your 4runner looks amazing! Are there any problems that have come up because you set your 5100s at 2.5? Mine are at 1.75 and I'm considering to move them up a notch but I'm worrying about the negatives.

So I’m obviously striking up a very old thread but couldn’t find anything recent.

I’m going with bilstein 5100 in rear and toytec superflex. I already have 5100 in front with stock set to 0.85. Trying to decide whether to just keep stock coils and raise 5100 to 1.75 or 2.5 whichever one will make it level in front or just break down and get the 884 for front.

I might do occasional light duty trails but it’s 90% my DD so would it be worth the extra $200 for the 884’s in front? If it’s going to improve ride quality extremely well on my day to day driving then I don’t care to do it but with me not taking it on trails often I’m just not sure if it’s worth it for me.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
