V8 conversion

Another problem.

Fuel filter is dangerously close to the cat. i am thinking about moving it to the out side of the frame rail.

Singtoe - not to detract from all the good stuff you're doing here, but did you put any more thought to putting the Sequoia rear brakes on the 4Runner axle? I know you mentioned that somewhere (in this thread I believe) and that got my gear cranking on that possibility as well...

I have been waiting till the conversion is done to try rear disk brakes.

It should be a piece of cake but in order to do the swap, the drum brakes, backing plate and bearing need to be removed. Then the disk caliper bracket will need to be installed along with a bearing and the abs tone ring. This could be an all day job.

If the axles were the same size (Sequoia is a few inches bigger), I could just swap out assemblies but our luck is not that fortunate.

I will do it in good time...


FWIW, I will go ahead a slap on the Sequoia front brakes on because

A: I broke the brake lines open when I removed the body so the brake system will have to be bled, and

B: It is like a 30 minute job to do both front brakes.

Just for clarification, the reason your not using the Sequoia axle is be cause it is too wide and won't look good or is it that it just won't fit?

The main reason I am not using it is because the E-locker won't fit.

Fwiw, I am running spidertrax spacers.

Looked up the rear bearing and the 4runner uses the same as the tundra but there is a different part number for Sequoia. Will still take try the conversion when everything else is done.
 
Have to order a radiator. Give me some suggetions.

The 4runner radiator is big enough to handle the V8 but the spigots are on the wrong side. I need a drivers side inlet and a passenger side outlet.

I have been looking at dodge van radiators, chevy nova and camaro radiators and anything in between. The radiator would need to have tabs on it to mount the the header panel. I have been looking at radiators all weekend and hard to make a decision.

The inlet and the outlet size is 1 1/2" . The mounting points measure 28" wide. Height wise, I can go up to 22".


I think I have narrowed it down to 1982 Datsun 280zx radiator.

I found one on ebay for $150 for a ricer aluminum tig welded one or should I spend $25 more and buy an OEM type brass radiator?

I'd probably go with the cheaper option. You currently have an OEM upgrade going on with the V8 swap....I'd just go with an OEM style radiator.....jut my 2 cents..
 
I ended up going with the Aluminum 3 row. I read that aluminum was more efficient then brass. It was the perfect size for the body, the outlets were oriented on the correct sides and it was fairly inexpensive.


I went ahead and ordered a cold air intake too. I haven't received anything yet.

Since nobody makes a kit for my application, I will be making my own.


Will post some more pics as it gets here.
 
Still Waiting for parts to come in. So I made my Front bumper relocation brackets.

My lift is officially done, with the exception of lifting the trailer hitch up.

I guess i went overboard on my bracket material. 1/4" plate but it was free.

Man, I'm so pumped to see what thats going to look like when everything is done. Sweet! I wish I had that kind of know-how. Unfortunately, trucks aren't my specialty (although I do love them) because I'm a musician... Looks great, keep up the good work.
