V8 conversion

Thank you, another problem I see myself running into is fabricating the engine mounts, are there any alternatives if I don't know how to weld?

Here is the mount that I made

Here is my mount and the factory mount.

Here is a mount that you can buy from 1UZFESWAPKIT.COM

They want $380, which is a rip off. If I couldn't weld, I would have a local machine shop make me a set for $75.

Here is another mount.

It is a more reasonable $99.

You might have to shim with washers to get the height right but that is a non-issue.

Alright makes perfect sense, that you so much for letting me pick your brain a bit, if I have anymore questions ill ask. Thanks again!

Coming from someone who has done several engine swaps, including two different times in my 89 FJ62, I am impressed. Mostly by how economically you did it, and secondly by your use of the Sequoia cluster. I originally used a 91 IROC Camaro 5.7 mated to an A440 trans. It was easy to wire and I wanted to keep the Toyota trans. They were not however, well matched. 40K later I switched to a 2001 5.3 with a 4l60. Much more wiring intensive, but not as bad as your swap. I found a guy locally who removed the non emissions programming from the ECU for $300 in order to avoid the BCM issues and such. I wish I had documented it back in 04, but then again, old 62's don't have a forum like this. Great Job!

I was at a gas station yesterday and someone filling up next to me (driving a late model TRD Taco) commented on my wheels and tires.

I asked him what was TRD on his truck. He proceeded to talk about his electronic locking rear axle and Bilstiens shocks.

I said if you are impressed by my tires and wheels, take a look at this. I popped the hood open and he freaked out, and said "You put a Tundra motor in your 4runner. That is so awesome."

First time I showed my junk off at a gas station.

Hi Singtoe - I might have missed it somewhere in the 44 pages of awesomeness, but did you ever get around to the rear discs?

I never did the disk brake swap. I still have them but no motivation.

My drums work fine. They adjust by themselves and have a good pedal firmness.

The Sequoia disk brakes mount on to unit bearings and with out serious fab work won't fit on the 4runner axle.

The Sequoia Master cylinder uses linkage to multiply the force needed to apply the brakes.

If I lived in the salt belt and the drum brake was crapping out, I would have figured out how the make the disks work.

I hate rust.

Having also done several disc brake conversion, I can tell you it usually isn't worth the trouble. Now when I converted to 80 series axles on my 62 I did benefit from
A. Larger front rotors
B. Rear discs on full floaters
C. Stopping power almost as good as a normal car.

FJ60/62's have the worst brakes in the world, I had upgraded to and 80 Master and that helped a lot, it has a bigger diameter piston. For most though, rear discs only help to avoid fade when racing, or descending.
I do see the benefit to someone dealing with salt/rust.

This swap is freaking awesome I just went over my data limit for the month reading this and watching your videos. This was a perfect swap. But I've noticed a reoccurring theme here. You run out of gas a lot. Haha awesome swap wish I could see it in person!

Thanks man.

Yeah, about the gas. I am thinking about how to add an auxiliary fuel tank where the spare tire sits. Just trying to figure out a pumpless way to transfer between the two tanks.

This might be showing my age, but when I was in school, gasoline was about a $1 per gallon. I remember always struggling for gas money. Putting in $5 actually got me a couple of days of use. But I don't know how kids do it today.

Damn. I was hoping somewhere along the way here we'd do the rear disk conversion.

If there was one thing on my 3rd gen I would like to do, it is rear disks.

Thanks man.

My first car was a 62 Willys truck with a Chevy 350 wouldn't run worth a crap on regular so I paid almost $5 a gallon and got 8mpg needless to say all my money went gas. Don't know how I did it.

Does anyone have any info on other swaps in a 3rd gen?? I have unlimited resources in the salvage industry(junkyard). I thought it would be pretty cool to put in a new vortec or something along those lines.
