V8 conversion

I am the proud owner of a TRD Supercharger.



This is the 9th and 10th injected model.



And I got some Forged Rods to boot.



I Promised myself that I would finish Jame's swap before installing this bad boy so everybody will have to wait:shrug:

My VVTi Engine has 572,XXX km on it so I am very much considering a bore over and larger pistons to punch it out to 5.0L. I don't really want to sleeve it and I won't ever be running a supercharger on it.

A supercharged 4.7L is insanity - if it comes close to what my 5.7L does... well you should look at a larger rear end!

Haha after I graduate it won't be :D I have been researching to do exactly what you are, S/C and all, to my Runner. I just have to finish school and get a daily first!

I thought the purpose of the 9th and 10th injectors were so you DIDN'T have to use premium, like the URD 7th Injector kit?

On the contrary, adding more air and fuel raises the compression ratio thus the more likely hood of pre-denotation which results in spark knocking...

Those turds were $12 a piece... :twitch:

I have cut out and pasted diagrams and the VVTI is a wirery MoFo.



The VVTI takes up 6 pages of diagrams while the 5VZ only has 3 pages

Wowza.... That's intense! I'll be curious to see how well this works out. This is my only hitch. I was considering no cutting any of the wiring and just turning all of my wiring into the tundra harness and only splicing in things like the window motors and door locks, etc. but all the computer/wiring would remain factory without any cuts. PNP from the tundra to ensure a minimal amount of bugs in the system.

That's the way to go repinning everything. I am curious to see if all the sensors elsewhere in the truck are compatible or will you be changing them all.

Also what part number is that terminal tool kit? I gotta get me one of those! I am sick of using a damn pin to depin everything.

You really don't need the whole kit. You just need one of them. As soon as i start, I will post the part number of the individual tool.

Worked on the beast some more yesturday. I finished the engine compartment up. I decided to use a bigger radiator then the one on my truck. I used this time a radiator for a Twin turbo Supra. It is wider and taller and thicker then my radiator.

There was a couple of issues that I had to deal with. The return spout is pointing up and it interfered with the pulleys on the motor so i took it to a radiator shop (who weld my ac lines) and they cut it off, turned it 180 degrees and re welded it back. The other issue was actually mounting it to to 4runner.

So here it is welded up.



Here are the mounts that i welded and painted on to the front apron.





The bottom of the radiator. I used a rubber cup to isolate the radator from the mount.



Here she is mounted with the electric fan installed.



Here is everything buttoned up.



Started wiring it up .

This is the controller for the air pump the the 2uz uses for emissions.

Just sitting at the shop day dreaming about the supercharger. I have all the pieces to install it but a Boost gauge.

Although it is not necessary to function, I have been scouring over the internet to find a TRD boost gauge.

Much to my dismay, they have discontinued the TRD Boost gauge.

I have found a solution. A gauge company called Speed hut makes them to order.

It cost me $190 but i have a gauge coming in about three weeks.

I worked on the Jame's 4runner over the Holiday weekend. Well not the whole week end, I saw Terminator Genisis. It was Craptactuler!

Everything that has to be done has to be thought out and planed well in advanced.

I had to mount the Drive by wire Throttle Pedal.

Here is the Before shot. Notice that the fire wall is not flat and is really not conducive to mounting a pedal.



Getting the spacing and height was brain racking. But here it is.



The ECM has 5 plugs with about 32 wires in each one. The first 3 plugs are attached to the engine wire harness so they did not need to be messed with.
The other 2 plugs have about 64 wires which ties to everything in the 4runner.

So Figuring stuff out and what to do IE: The ECT button is no longer used with the V8 motor but the V8 has a push button 1st gear so I made the ECT the 1st Gear button.

Other ordeals. The Cruise control of the 4runner is a three wire set up (just switches) while the V8 is a 2 wire that use resistances. Had to swap them but because of the steering wheel is different, it was not a straight bolt up deal.



The old one is held on by 3 screws.



I had to shave and trim and make a clamp but here is the retrofit.



Here it is with the horn button plate...



Still so much to do and no time to do it in. I will continue the saga...
