V8 conversion

That sounds like a sweet idea, and I don't want to deter you from doing it. However you'd probably need to ask one of the 2nd gen guys, 3rd gen in 96-02.
 
So, I talked to Sing today.

He spun a bearing.

He got another motor already, and is going to drop it in.

Then probably port and polish, bore, etc etc the other one, depending on the damage.

Possible, but doubt it. Normally it's the connecting rods that blow first on a supercharged 2UZ. Although it could be excessive force on the bearing from the increased force caused by the supercharger. aka fatigue.

Hey all.

Yes, I spun a bearing. I was just going to the shop about a 2 miles from the house and my engine shut off. I started it back up and noticed that my oil preasure was zero. I parked it in my parking spot and contined with work. Later in the day, when it was time to go home, i started it up and my oil preasure was super high and then about 10 seconds later it bottomed out to zero. I spun a bearing.

I figured it was from the begining when i descovered all the sludge . I cleaned the the top end but i didnt clean the lower end. A big peice of sludge dislodged and covered my oil pick up. I have put 50k miles on that motor and all of the sudden , she stopped up.

So the story goes - Should i rebuild and get another motor. Apperently these motors are so reliable, the salvage yards are overstocked with them. So i picked up a used one with 120k on it for $450. This was a long block with all accessories still on it.

I swapped out my motor and it was long and tedius. Beacuase the motor was so cheap, i have decided to make even more horse power. If it craps out, just get another motor.

The question is - What did i do to my baby and Broc, don't help them out, to give it more power...
 
Is the new engine out of another Sequoia? I'd go for a 4Runner or Land Cruiser block for the stronger rods.

It is out of an sequoia. Just for hits and giggles, i looked up land cruiser 4.7 and ther are $1500+ and 4runner 4.7 are still only about $500.

Sorry to hear of the bearing failure!
Wow, $500 for a 4R 4.7L... $450 for your Sequoia 4.7L! On the West coast those units are hard to find.. and if you can, they're $2K and up! I'll admit, there are fewer V8 Toyota's here---- tons of Taco's 2nd and 3rd Gen 4r's.. with little rust..

I love what you've done and I check in on this thread from time to time. I'd love to do this swap, but alas, I am really busy at this point, and I need to work on my welding skills--- I did pick up a Miller Thunderbolt this Spring and intend to work on it!
