The question is how many V8 4Runners have the annoying exhaust manifold tick - and which side is it on?

I have it at 96k for the first couple minutes after crank. No sulfur smell (unless back window down) and it doesn't bother me. I'll never fix it because it freaking $1,000+

I suppose being the originator of the thread I should chime in:
112000km (~70000miles) - tick coming from right side very obvious, but I'm almost starting to believe I'm hearing it on the left now too...that would be a real bummer.
I don't plan on changing it just to get rid of the tick. If it fails an emmisions test then I'll do something about it but I'd like to get some performance out of it...
I've searched and found out that nobody makes an aftermarket header for our trucks so I'm looking to see if I can get my hands on a used set of headers (ie cracked) that I can use as a template to get new ones made from. PM me if you have a set or know where I can get a set (cheap!)

60K and yes have right side tick when cold. Don't plan on fixing it. State has no emission tests :guitar3:

Its a bit early on to be commenting on the statistics but roughly 1 in 3 V8 owners are reporting an exhaust manifold tick at start up (ie cold).
(as of now 8 report it on the right side, 1 on both sides and 16 don't have it)

It doesn't seem as rare or isolated as I previously thought based on my lack of hits on google!
Anyways I was staring at the T4R today while waiting for my kids and it dawned on me why the right side manifold is so tight - the engine isn't centered in the vehicle! The engine actually sits off center to the right side by an inch or 2. Any ideas why? Is this related to the 4WD system or am I imagining it? Is this the same on the V6?

03 with 104,000 miles here. The tick doesn't seem to happen every time I start the vehicle cold, and I haven't noticed a sulfur smell either.
Had mine replaced for free.
Bought a used 07 T4R V8 in April 2011 and had the ticking sound and sulfur smell everybody is describing start in August. Thanks to the info I found on T4R.org I went to the dealer and told them that it was a manifold issue and that is should be covered under the emission warranty. The truck had 75,000 miles on it. They checked, confirmed it was the passenger side manifold and replaced it for FREE.
If not covered it's $1500 in MA to fix it. Thanks T4R.ORG!

I'm taking my 4Runner in tonight to get inspected for a cracked manifold, I also have 75,000 miles on it but I don't have a warranty for whatever reason. I just bought this 4Runner a couple weeks ago from a toyota dealer. I'm hoping they are cooporative.

I had a cracked manifold on the passenger side at 56,000 miles. Had it replaced today under 80,000 Emission Warrenty also.
Not yet, fingers crossed!!

Im wondering how many people have it after replacing their muffler or adding Cat backs as so many guys do?
I would say to anyone who upgrades their muffler/Cats or anything to first explain to the guy doing the work how important it is to not move this exhaust around much when work is being done on it.
Any stress on it, like it hanging freely or pushing over/up & shaking it around to seperate the parts to it will greatly add to them cracking. Keep its front on hangers as much as possible.
I hit this post while re-searching exhaust upgrades for 4runners. Re-thinking that idea now...??
I gave my "no" pole answer too. Hope I didnt just jinks my ass...lol :scared:
