V8 oil change

Do skid plates need to be removed on the V8 to get the oil filter off? The front skid plate option, does this get in the way of any thing, such as grease fittings or oil filter change?

You could struggle and change the filter without removing the skid plate. I relocated mine so I could just reach behind the front bumper without even getting on the ground.

You can reach the oil filter from above. But oil will get on the skid plate.

I drop the skid, 4 bolts, easy, clean.

You can also modify the skid to make an access door for the oil filter. Check this thread.



I don't think you need to drop any skids to access grease fittings.

He does not need to change the oil every year with that set-up, so removing the skid is not an issue; if it has to be done at all?

One more question, how many grease fittings are there, do you have a count?

I"m getting excited about getting my 4Runner, I just want to be ready for it. Pricing and specs for the 07 model will be out in about a month I hope!

I think it is a 14 mm.

Here are the zerk locations. You'll need Moly and Lithium greases to follow the manual. I bought one of each from Amsoil. I have two of these. The pistol/hose combo is the best way to go.

Instead of purchasing two grease guns, my plan is to use Valvoline Synpower synthetic grease. I can use that for everything and don't have to worry if this fitting needs molly or lithium, or some other grease. Just ends all the confusion and one grease gun is all I need.

I now 10k miles on my truck and need to do zerk fittings.

How many squirts of the grease gun do you give the zerk fittings?

And is Valvoline Synpower synthetic grease good for both types of different grease Toyota suggests? Does Mobil1 make something similar?

I sooooo want one of these, wish the price would come down a little.

I hate having to remove that skid plate each time. Adds another 15 minutes to the whole process of changing the oil.

There are several companies that make a remote single full flow system for less then $50 but I don't see any for the 4Runner 4.7 V8. Summit Racing carries them. It may be worth a phone call if someone is interested.

Yup that's what I do

One thing I have found that works well for the V8 is to take a large, shallow funnel and run some fuel line from it to an oil container. Remove the filter and hold this under it, you only need to leave it there for a few minutes. You still have to fit your arm up there to remove the filter, but it's not too bad.
