v8 power 4th gen vs tundra

So I drove my friends 2007 tundra 4.7 v8. I felt it had a ton of more torque and power in every gear. Anyone know if its due to the transmission gearing? I know it has vvti but I would not think that would make that huge of a difference. It would break the tires loose if I went 40mph and stomp on it.

It makes me wonder if mines is in need of something.

Well the 2007 4.7L V8 in the Tundra was rated at 276/313 and the VVT-I engines have nice flat torque curves. Your V8 was originally rated at 235/320 but would probably have gone down to 225/296 if was rated in 2006 when a couple of the Japanese car companies got busted using funny math for their engine ratings.

Of course your 4Runner will never break the tires loose since it is full-time 4WD. and given the potentially 50 hp discrepancy and better torque curve of the Tundra's motor, I'd say it should feel much more powerful

Additionally, the VVT-I V8 could move a 2005 4Runner to 60 mph almost a second fast than the earlier 2003/04 V8. That's a pretty hefty difference.

I would assume the rear end gearing is different too? Someone else can probably verify that. I'm too lazy to google it

we do not have a 2wd only mode. if we did we probably could break things loose too. look at the 3rd gen with a 4.7L v8 swap on here...its a beast

If breaking the tires loose is what you "are in need of" then yank yer' front driveshaft out. You'll be doing donuts in no time!

I'm pretty sure the tundra also has a larger rear end to help the v6 and 4.7 keep up with the competition, it's a heavy truck.

I dont need anymore power than I currently have. I just feel there maybe something off on my truck.

I do like the punch the tundra has. The 4runners power is so smooth it sometimes feel like driving a minivan.

My x5 broke the tires loose in all 4 wheels with traction control off. It was a beast, a very unreliable one at that.

You could take the front driveshaft out and lock the center differential. It might put a lot of stress on the locking mechanism.

Yea..... I wasn't 100% serious on that one. Probably not a good idea to yank the front drive shaft. I did do it every summer on my 1998 Grand Cherokee V8 - OH GOD was that a fun car to drive in 2WD in the summer time.

Again... different times I know... different transfer case in the T4r, lots more electronics as well, but seriously - how fun would it be to have part time 2WD in these????

I was just saying you were experiencing a little bit easier of a time in the Tundra with "smoking'em" due to 2WD.....
