V8 Tranny Filter Change?

Thai suggested I post this on the open forum:

I saw in a post that you can replace the tranny filter, once the pan is dropped. Is this a recommended item (as I don't think I've seen it in the manual)?

I did drop the pan last year at around 30k, to install a temperature sensor. At that time I cleaned the magnet, which didn't have that much on it.

The truck does some heavy towing, and I just had the dealer do a total trans fluid flush at 58k miles( see here ) , even thought the fluid still looked real good (I have a larger tranny cooler/fan combo installed) - but I'm wondering now about the filter.

You don't have a filter on this transmission only a screen. I would be more concerned with the flush and the word "conditioner" that was added to your transmission. Nothing but transmission fluid should ever go into a transmission. Many owners have reported transmission failure a few KK miles after a transmission "flush". I have had the transmission fluid "exchanged" using a transmission fluid exchange machine. Dealers often do this and want to add a "cleaner" to the Flush, this cleaner is what ruins the transmissions. I would contact the dealer and findout what they put in your transmission that they are calling a conditioner. If they say it was something that was suppose to cleanout the whatever then take your 4runner to a local shop that does transmission fluid exchanges and get all of that "conditioned" fluid out of your transmission and replace it with only new type IV Toyota fluid or Mobil 1 synthetic transmission fluid which should provide better protection for your towing. If your concerned about the "screen being clean" then drop the pan and check the screen. Hope this helps.

The receipt says it was the exchange method - but I will call to check on what the conditioner is.
