Just came back from vacation \ road trip with my family (Wife, 2 small children and myself) and just want to share my experience with 4Runner.
We have driven from Texas to Colorado Great Sand Dunes from Colorado Great Sand Dunes to Colorado Springs from there to Yellowstone. After 4 days in Yellowstone we went back to Colorado Springs for 2 more days and after visiting some attractions and going on a Pikes peak (14,110.00 feet) we went back home to Texas.
Overall, we have put 3625 miles on the truck in 9 days.
I can honestly say that this is a best vehicle I have taking on a long journey so far.
This Truck is amazing. It is very quiet, very smooth and so powerful. I was very impressed with V8. It was going strong on any elevation.
Passing anything I want on 6000 feet elevation without shifting from 5 gear and going 90 miles per hour is priceless.:bouncy:
Gas-mileage is also very impressive, considering driving 80-85 miles per hour in Colorado and half of the Wyoming. After calculating it is 21.6 mpg (we burned 167.8 gallons of fuel), but according to computer it was 21.8 (not too far off).
I was a little worry about my tires (original Bridgestone) and with around 36K on them, they were getting a little bold, but no problems at all, even on muddy “switchbacks” upon Yellowstone mountain roads and on a wet snow we went through on a first day in Yellowstone. I am sure AWD mode has a lot to do with it too. And now my tires have 39.5K.
