Valor tip installation: how tight does the clamp have to be?

What's up,
I just purchased the valor exhaust tip for my 4runner and from the instructions it says to tighten the clamp (which clamps the tip to the exhaust) to a minimum of 8lbf-ft and a maximum of 12 lbf-ft. I've been using a plain old socket wrench to tighten the clamp nut so I'm wondering how I can estimate how much I need to tighten the nut so it won't fly off while driving! So far I haven't tightened it to the point it can't be turned anymore, but it feels pretty secure (can't pull it off by hand). I'm scared to tighten it too much because I don't want to crush my exhaust pipe!

When I put mine on, I just tightened it till it wouldn't turn anymore. If you cannot turn the tip in any direction I would think that it would be fine. If you tighten it too much it will be hard to remove if you ever want to clean it with a chrome cleaning agent.

Sounds good bro! I'm still going to go out and buy a torque wrench (my next project will be to install the front skid plate!) but it makes sense to just tighten till it won't turn anymore and that's it.
