I recently bought my 97 w/ 163,000 miles. There is a slight knock/click that a few different mechanics have said a valve adjustment would fix. I am wondering what tools are necessary to complete this process and any other shims or other parts I would need and where I get the parts and tools. Also does anyone know of a place I can find a step by step process so that I don't screw anything up. Thanks in advance!

The other link does not mention VZ engines. This one just says most Toyota overhead cams with shims and does not exclude the VZ series. And it costs $75 less.
I don't know--I am just asking....
There seems to be two issues with this project: Getting the right tools, and getting tight shims out.
RS Dude: Was it an access problem, and pulling the camshaft allowed enough room to pop the shim out? On the other valves that were out of adjustment, were you able to get any shims out before pulling the camshaft, or were they all to tight?
Anyone else have any experience with tight shims, and advice on removal of same? TIA

I was not able to get any shims out with the tool. The shims fit too tightly inside the lifter. Even with the lifter pulled out and in my hands the shims were hard to pop out. I would not buy the tool, and just expect to pull the camshafts.
When installing camshafts, the FSM has you check and adjust valve clearance after the cam is installed. I hope the clearance doesn't change due to some minute difference when removing and installing.
Looking at a picture of the lifter, is the shim a disc that fits in the top? And it looks like the best chance at getting the shim out is to come in through the notch.
