On my 90 3.0, I think my valve need adjustment.
When we bought the rig, the engine was almost silent, ran beautiful. It still runs great after a year. I have changed the oil, air cleaner, checked the regular tune up stuff (except the plugs). It does use about a quart of oil every couple months.
It has started rattling, like detonation from wrong octane fuel. It started this when it was nasty hot (over 100 outside) this summer, but didnt seem to get worse or better once the engine warmed up. No change with different fuels either. Now that it is cold out, it still does it. I saw an interval listed in my Chiltons manual for adjusting the valves. This is my first Toyota, so I am not up on all the "basic owner's knowledge".
How tough is it to do this? I am really thinking of having a shop do it so I don';t foul it up. (I am skilled with a wrench, but I am not sure I have the right tools or the patience for this.)
Is there a better manual than the Chilton? It is ok, better than nothing, but really stinks compared to my Bently manuals for my VW's.
