Valve clatter on startup

I have an 03 V8 Sr5 with about 20,000 miles. Sometimes when I start it after it has been sitting all night or for a long time during the day I get a loud noise like it's out of oil. The dipstick says OK. I change every 3000 with Mobil One. As soon as I drive about 1/4 mile the sound is gone and it runs smooth as silk. Could it be because my filter is Bosch instead of OEM? It never did it when I used dino oil. The dealer has little help because they say they can't reproduce the sound. Any ideas?

I would park it overnight at the dealer and start it up for them in the morning so they can hear it. Doesn't sound like something I would want to go on very long.

Does it sound like a diesel? Search on Tundra solutions. I think the V8s exhaust manifolds can develop small leaks. Does not go away until it warms up. My brother's Tundra has 30k on the clock. It can be noisy on cold starts.

I guess I will have to hassle with the dealer. A friend told me that since the OEM oil filter holds more oil in reserve and doesn't let it leak back down into the pan if you use a non OEM it can cause this to happen. Just thought I would see if there was any truth to it. That manifold thing sounds nasty to deal with!

I read recently, I think on this site in the tech info article that there is something that normally causes a noise. I know that's not much help. When I read the article a lite bulb went off in my head and I say to myself, "this must be whats causing some noises that a few owners have complained about"
Now I'm not claiming to be Einstein but I was a professional mechanic, facory trained by BMW's apprentice program, a H.S. auto shop teacher and fleet manager for hundreds of vehicles for ma bell and 50 outrageous exotics for monster cable!

I will try to find what I read.

Why not eliminate all unknows,first get rid of the non oem fiter and replace with Toyota filter. Seems to me first thing dealer will do is point that out as a problem,change it and say try it for a while. Beat them to the punch and change it yourself so they don't have any excuses. Its probably not an issue but why give the dealer an out.

I plan on changing out the filter this weekend and taking it in on Monday as I am off from work.

I'm not sure how large the Bosch filter is, but I bet is has an anti-drainback valve.

What viscosity Mobil1 are you using? How many miles why you switched?
