Valve clearance check with cam belt not on yet.

I'm in the process of a head gasket repair. I have the cams installed. While there is relative nothing in the way I feel like doing the valve clearance check now.

It's a non-interference engine so I should be able to rotate the cams and check the valve train while its relatively open around the heads.

What does the collective think?

Yes, it's a no brainer. It takes at most 30 mins to do and is pretty straight forward. People don't usually bother checking the clearances even when doing the valve cover gaskets. The frustrating part is if your clearance is off, it will take a few days to order the shims from the dealer and they are quite costly.

Last time I needed shims I had them the next day and dealer charged 7 dollars each. I think I needed 2 3.00 and 1 3.10. They were all in stock at the Washington DC warehouse.

Since it's a non interference engine I'm going to put on the cam sprockets and start measuring.....Hopefully tomorrow before work I can start.

You have clearance to check clearances, Clarence.
