Valve Cover Difference?

Did the 5VZ come with different valve covers trough the years? My 98 and 00 have a ribbed style on the drivers side while the engine I’m rebuilding came out of a 97 and both valve covers are smooth.

Other than the cosmetic differences, does anyone know is there are any other differences? Does one evacuate the crankcase better than the other?

OK. So Im not positive, but Im about 95% sure they are interchangeable.

IIRC they're interchangable 5VZ to 5VZ regardless of year or platform.

(one day i'll have the cajones to forego the IIRC)
