valve cover gasket

i have a 98 limited v6 and im doing the valve cover gasket change the guy at AAA told me that i only have to remove the air box and the upper intake but when i remove the upper intake the middle intake is blocking the driver's side valve cover bolts so is he right that i only have to take off the yop intake plenum. or do i have to take off the middle one too.

You'll need to remove a lot more than that. The entire intake (to the throttle body) needs to come off, and perhaps some more stuff...and that's just for the passenger side. The driver side is a whole new ball of wax. Start with instructions on how to change spark plugs on the V6, and go from there. 4Runners.org - Changing Your Spark Plugs

the toyota intake manifold is three parts in order to get to the valve covers you have to remove the top two right ? the middle intake manifold is blocking the bolts for the driver side valve cover.

Looking at the manual it looks like you are correct. That way you won't have to remove the fuel rail either. One other question is do you need to drain the coolant? It looks like the coolant does not flow into the middle and upper manifolds.

what do u mean d/l the fsm and yes its a huge pain in the ass.

oh yeah i checked my valve cover bolts and they are extremly loose and i asked couple people they said it happened to them too so eveyone go home and check if their valve cover bolts are lose

PS: still need advise from anyonw whos done valve cover gaskets thenselves.

If you could have slipped a wrench under there, maybe you could have torqued the bolts and not had to pull the valve covers.

all the valve cover bolts are loose on every single 3.4L I have put my hands on, you can reach only half of them without taking the whold intake upper out, then you will need replace 2 intake gaskets and 1 throttle body gasket.
