Valve cover gaskets replacement kit

I need to replace my valve cover gaskets and I'm assuming I need to replace the cam caps as well (havent cracked off the covers yet but Im going to be replacing them since ill be replacing the gaskets anyways).

Where should I order all this from? Is there a kit that has everything for this job? or do I have to order separate parts? Thanks in advance!

Go to the dealer and tell them what you want. I know of no kit to do this.

Buy the round plug at the back of each head, and the 16 grommets that the valve cover bolts go through. Pull the half moons and reseal them also.

You may be able to buy a valve cover gasket that comes with the spark plug tub seals. If not the tube seals should be replaced also.

This is the kit you need. It has all the VC gaskets and doodads that you need. (Other than intake manifold gaskets)

The price is hard to beat, and this brand is the OEM supplier of Toyota parts. I bought OEM gasket from a dealer and this kit to compare the two. They are exactly the same - packaging and all.

Pay attention to Quality

Did this job a few years back and used one of these kits being sold on ebay for cheap. Long story short, the cheap valve cover gaskets started to leak like crazy right after the job was done. ended up cracking one of my valve covers in the process (I was still learning the importance of using a torque wrench, valve covers are made out of aluminum and pretty fragile so watch the torque on those bolts). I had to do the job over again, used a Felpro kit from autozone or Oreilleys the second time arounf and had to get another valve cover from the junkyard. Apparently, second times the charm. good luck.

I normally use the Fel-Pro valve gaskets and went with the OEM brand. Now they leak. Back to Fel-Pro for me. Their gaskets are a bit softer than the OEM gaskets so seal a little bit better to the nuances of a used engine.

Cam caps usually refers to the actual caps that hold the cams down on the head. You (hopefully) obviously don't replace those. You can and should replace the round plugs and re-seal the half-moons, as others have mentioned.

I've used Ishino Stone, Felpro, Beck Arnley, and probably others that I'm forgetting. Never had an issue with any. Ishino is OEM, as mentioned, and while I would definitely go with them for something like a head gasket, for $80 I'd go with a different brand.

I had aftermarket valve cover gaskets and those leaked within few months. Then went with OEM and so far so good.
OEM valve cover part number is 1121362020 and it is $25 a side.

First time I am hearing Ishino is toyota's OEM supplier. Must do some more research.

$25 gets you both sides and 6 plug tube gaskets from Felpro on Rockauto. I went with Felpro over Ishino for my rear main seal I'm putting in tomorrow to save, like $10. They're good gaskets when it comes to sealing oil and fluids.

We have all had different experiences, that is clear.

Everything Fel-pro that I have used has leaked sooner than expected. In the case of spark plug tube seals, almost immediately. It all has been replaced with OEM now and dry for 5 years.

To each their own, but I think you are taking a big risk going cheap on rear main seals or even valve cover gaskets. Anything with a lot of labour involved to do it again...

is Ishino OEM for head gasket as well as Valve Cover seals? Im pushing 300K on the odometer and losing power so I was figuring on doing a valve job one of these days. might as well get to that head gasket while I'm in there.

Your losing power because the compression pressure is probably down after 300k miles. Engines get tired and worn out. Doing valve covers is not going bring back power.

There are other reasons for loss of power. If you have knock sensor codes? If your check engine light free right now it might be time for a lower Milligan salvage engine or rebuild.

Yes. I just used this kit - 3.4 5VZ 95-99 Head Gasket Set OEM TOYOTA | Yota1 Performance, Inc. - Toyota Engines, Rebuild Kits, & Parts Much cheaper than going through Toyota, from anyplace I found at least. As documented on this forum I had to do head gaskets twice because the machine shop cut my valve seats wrong, and they bought me new genuine Toyota gaskets at my request. They're identical to the ones in this kit.

^Leakdown test would determine where you're losing compression but valves are a good bet, and valve job would probably get you most of your power back.
