Valve Cover Gaskets

So I've got some oil puking out the back of the passenger side valve cover.

Has anybody performed this task of changing both valve cover gaskets?

Am I right by saying I will need to get new gaskets for the throttle body, intake plenum, and valve covers?

Approx. how much time should I set aside for this job?

You can do just the passenger side without removing the intake. You're not so lucky if you do the driver's side. Just the passenger side will take you about half an hour. Both will be more like 2 hours.

Did you try just tightened the valve cover bolts first? Sometimes they get a little loose, and tightening them up will stop the leaking.

Yes, I'd replace all the gaskets you listed if you're going to do the job. If I was doing it, I'd set aside 4 hours. You could do it faster, but I personally don't like to hurry....it's easier to do a good job if you don't rush.

X2 on tightening the bolts down some. I had to do mine twice but no more leaking now and they were bad. Got more than a full turn on most of them.

When I noticed where the leakage was coming from, tightening the bolts was the first thing I did. Yes, they were loose, but it hasn't fixed my problem.

Gasket swap sounds like a good weekend project!

Thats odd. Where exactally is the leak/s? Have you pressure washed the old oil leak residue off yet? That way you have a fresh start.

ahh just had mine done... like 3 weeks ago... initially, i tighten but it didn't work so had my mechanic do the job.

I'm listening...need to do this same maintenance as well. I also have more oil visible on my passenger side valve cover.

What engine do you have? that will make a difference in difficulty.

I have a six cyllander and all in all it took about 6.5 hours. However, When I pulled the plenum off I went ahead and replaced a bunch of other stuff too.

Valve Cover Gaskets
Plenum gasket
Plugs
Plug Wires
Plug Gaskets
Cleaned out Mass Air Flow sensor

I also was able to clean some of the built up sludge that had formed over the years.

If your going to spend the time to do it, go ahead and do it right and change these other things.

I think i spent a total of $100 maybe? cant remember now.
