Hi,

I just bough a 2010 4runner from a Toyota dealer:

Model: Limited, Sliver exterior, Beige interior
Mileage: 3000Km

Believe it or not, the dealer reduced $7500 (no PDI or freight charges) !!!!. I can still the standard warranty by adding those extra mileage.

W-H-A-T ??? How long did his nose grow after he told that one? I had a dealer the other day tell me that a used 10' (not a 4R) we were looking at would have gone for WELL over $30k, I gave him a funny look and said, then why does the original window sticker on the other side say $27,500? Stereotypes are around for a reason!

i had to put 500 down on my first 4runner and on my second one i had to put down nothing. lol.

Those dealers in lower mainland eat you all especially Richmond/Port openroad. I put $0 down with 3.9% 72 months finance.

yup. 10k for salsa red. indirectly it was open road, but I went thru a broker. When we bought [spring - summer 2010] there was such a backlog that none of the dealers were budging (sp?) on the 5.9% financing...I talked to a US guy working/commuting from seattle to here who had the 2010 LE. Same story - the TE was a hot ticket that had us all lined up...ah well, that's what the L.O.C is for anyway. We tried the buying from our "southerly brothers" but since we wanted new not used, hit the roadblock of US dealers having their hands tied by toyota. We had the option of some backdoor stuff but in the end would have saved maybe 3k tops cuz the $$ in Canada came down and the $$ is the US went up a bit...enuf to close the window of savings to consider the hassle. IF it was still a 5-10k savings then no doubt.:dammit:

I also talked with our "south" brothers dealer. One of the dealers is willing to sell to us (CAN people). There is no problem. They can even deliver the vehicle to the border so that you can just pick it up. The price is pretty good. You save at least $8000 (limited model). However, you still need to pay non-american made tax (6.1%), GST (5%), PST (7%), Green Levy, some government admin fee, Canadian Tire inspection fee...... The BC government has seminar to teach you how to import cars from foreign countries or south border.

In my case, I saved ($7500, no freight, PDI....) for a deal in lower mainland. If you want a limited with 5 passenger, cargo sliding deck. You have to go to south brothers.

One thing to share with you guys if anyone would like to buy Toyota from the south brothers. They (some south border Toyota) is willing sell new car to Canadian. They can give you quote and deliver to border so that you can pick it up from the border as well. That is happening today.

Yes, some dealers break the rules and use tricks but sometimes they charge you more $$ to get around the "US residency" than you would pay otherwise.
Toyota will know that you have bought directly from a Dealer and punish the Dealer. The trick for the Dealer is to use an intermediary to "hide" the transfer and that intermediary gets paid from the cost of the vehicle.

Example,,

A new US Limited is say $43000 US$. An American resident can get it for maybe $39000. A non resident would get it for $41,000. You have just paid an extra $2000 to an intermediary to get around Toyota USA rules. A US Toyota Dealer risks their dealership having the title going straight to a Canadian resident. Usually it will need titling in the US first. Even if it is new.

There are ways to get a new Toyota from the US but you have to be creative and usually incur an extra "hidden" expense. It can still be worth it, but you need to understand the process.

I have imported many cars myself and the best deal financially is a slightly used, clean, very low mile vehicle.
