Vehicle Delivery options

I may be closing in on a deal for a used 4Runner ... finally.

The features/price/condition mix is right. If it works out, I'll post these about my new (to me) T4R later.

The issue is that it's 500 miles away and I don't have the time to go get it. The dealer has provided two options for delivery:

(1) flat bed truck it here ... take about a week .... ~$650

(2) drive it here directly ... take a day or so .... ~$450

I'm jumping back/forth on this one. Maybe it's splitting hairs, but is it a false economy to save $200 while putting 500 extra miles on a vehicle that's still under warranty? Note too that I don't own it until after I have it inspected locally and then execute the purchase.

If you plan on driving it into the ground, go get it.

I flew to Raleigh, NC from Atlanta for $100 and drove it home.

That's a tough one. I had some advice for you but then I flip-flopped on what I'd do.

I guess I would be able to better answer your question if I knew how many miles remaining in warranty. If it's 1,000 miles remaining, I'd have it trucked. If we're talking 10,000 miles remaining, I'd have them drive it to save the money.

Stop fretting. Have it driven. Vehicles get driven all the time. This is no exception.

Sounds like you could have a fun weekend road trip waiting for you. If there is Amtrak on your route, take the train and drive back, stopping at a bunch of tourist traps along with way. I suspect the seller would arrange to pick you up at the airport or train station, maybe even in your new truck!

That's a good point and helped push me off the fence to the 'drive it' side. There's over 15k left on the factory warranty so in the long run the 500 mile delivery drive is approaching trivial. Besides, it's a good shakedown drive and if something happens en route it's still their vehicle, not mine.

Glad we could help. 500 miles really is nothing in terms of lifespan for these vehicles. Can't wait to see pics!
