Vehicle Speed Sensor Malfunction -after nav install?

I installed a eclipse Avn6620 everything went fine and was pretty much plug and play... everything works fine but, I keep getting this code even after clearing it. Doesn't do it until you start driving for a couple miles down the road...

Was something pulled loose? Something need to be connected? I cannot figure this out, it happened the first drive after the install. Any suggestions?

I guess it was similar to this guys situation... though I have not tried to tap the VSS yet for the nav.

I suggest removing the speed sensor wire & reverse wire if you connected those. You need to remove your radio from the scenerio to troubleshoot the issue. If you clear the codes and the problem still persists, you should pull the code that is appearing from the ECM.

If you pull the wire and it goes away to never return, well then you know that wire is connected wrong. The 6620 does not need that wire for the Nav to work.

Yea I know, in my second post i said the VSS was not connected. The parking wire is the only one that I changed and I grounded it out on the frame... everything else just plugged in, speakers/power, and steering/aux controls etc...

Going to try a few thing tonight and see what's happens, apparently it's happened to a couple people but I still cannot find much info on a fix.

The radio without a doubt is the culprit I just need to find out why, if anything I'll clear the code and put the stock radio back in until I can figure out what's causing it.

Ok then I'll tell you what it could be. The stock stereo has a automatic sound limiting system depending on your current speed, I can't remmember the name of it. The Eclipse stereo does not, you need to find the wire that feeds the speed of the truck to the stereo and cut it. I had some issues like yours and our best guess (Toyota's & mine) was that this wire was the culprit. Even if it isn't it will not hurt to cut a wire to a feature you cannot use with the new unit.

If you can find a wiring diagram of the pin-out of the stock harness it should be easy to find. I'm not certain which wire it is but I know I had mine cut with no ill effects. I dont' remmember the exact issue I had but this sounds close. I never brought this up because I thought I had found some wierd wire gremlin that no one else ran into, but I think this could solve your issue. Worse case, re-splice and solder it back togther after it's cut?

Your probably right man, if you look at the link in the second post to the thread that is how he said he fixed it.

"Finally got the unit fully working and no more check engine light.

The fixed is to cut the speed sense wire off of the oem harness(the one that connect to the head unit) before tapping the one that eclipse provided to the ECM"

Good deal, I just need to find that wire and snip it... i didn't even bother with the ASL on the stock HU so no biggie.

Fixed, cut the VSS wire on the steering wheel control harness and no more CEL/Dash lights..

Surprised more people don't run across this problem.

Blackhalo I have the same problem. I even put the stock unit back in to see if the cel code would clear but it didn't. How did you figure out which wire to cut?
After you cut the wire and hooked everything back up did the cel go away on it's own or did you have to clear it with a diagnosis tool?

Easy fix man... it's the purple/red wire on the 20 pin (steering wheel/aux harness).

I have a cheapo diagnostic tool that I cleared it with... but you could run down to a parts store or try and reset it with unhooking the battery.

But yea, your going to have reset it...

And also, if you want to provide a speed pulse for the eclipse just splice into that wire that you cut... might as well do it since it's right there and you don't have to run it to the ecm in the glove box.
