VENTING!! Someon stole my spare!

So sometime last week, I posted about my tire pressure light being on. I checked all the tires and they were fine. Everyone said to check the spare or bring it in. I finally had the time to check the spare last night and....... it wasn't there. WTF? Did I take it off? No. Did I borrow it to someone? No. Some SOB stole it! I hope they get what's coming. Why the hell would someone steal a spare? Anyways... time to find another spare...

really? REALLY? That's pretty f'd up. I don't think I've ever heard that. I know it sucks for you and I'm not trying to downplay the seriousness of it, but you almost have to laugh at someone sooo pathetic that they go around stealing peoples spare tires. So Gay

Wow....that's messed up!....let me go check if mine is there..cuz my tire pressure light keeps going on an off.
 
I'm very sorry to hear that, but it's not that surprising. Some scumbag steals 4 spares and boom they've got roughly $1K worth of merchandise to sell on ebay. I paid $1K for my 18" Ltd wheels a couple years ago (from an actual T4R owner, not a thief). There are a couple of ads on here for folks selling complete sets (5), maybe you can convince one of them to sell you a single to replace your spare.
 
GatorGreg has a good point. It may be worth checking ebay and craigslist now and for the past few days to see if anyone locally near you just happens to be selling a spare. Set up a meeting, bring some friends. I'm all about confrontation.

Does anyone know if stock rims are tagged or have serial #'s associated to each vehicle?

That reminds me. I should go mark my spare with an identification symbol or something.
 
I hope it fell on their face and left center hub "toyota logo" inprint there permanently.
 
There is a sticky in 4th gen or general. Very common problem. If you dont have a chain on your spare you are at great risk. Still at risk with a chain or cable, just a little less.

You might notice other SUV's with something swinging under the rear. Thats their tire-less cable.
 
i thought you had to release the spare from the inside? ive never removed the spare but i thought you had to use a tool to drop it when you have the rear open?
 
hmm this had never even crossed my mind. i park in a garage at home but now im wondering when im out and about. i may do the cable lock set up now.
 
Not to hijack the thread but since we're on this topic...

What chain would you guys suggest for adding a little extra security to the spare?

Also, how would you go about marking the rim with some form of identification?

Yes, the hole you insert the tool to lower the spare is concealed and unaccessible when the trunk is closed. My guess....the 4R was not locked and they opened the trunk(check to see if your tools are still there) or they damaged the little winch that raises and lowers the spare.....

car was locked. They cut the cable. I'll have to look again because I don't remember seeing the winch anymore.

Thanks for the ebay stuff. I'm going to try to find a tire/rim locally. It don't have to be the same one.. I just want another under there. Anyone know the parts or part numbers for the parts I need to get it working again? Do you really need taht winch? Can I just get that mounting piece to screw the tire on.. then get a lock for it?
