I bought the Draw-tite brand vent shades a while back (eBay) and think that it was about $60 shipped. The funny thing was that I got it in the mail one sunny afternoon and decided to install them. I took them out of the box, check them out for scratches, cracks, etc. and found that they were in good condition. Everything seemed to be in order so I decided to rough fit the rear window first (start with the easy one). The fitment was rather tight, a little too tight casuing it to bind slightly. I was hoping that the front ones would fit a little bit better. Held the front one up and the dimensions were not even close. The verticle rise of the visor (near the front of the vehicle) was about 6 inches too long and the horizontal run was about 4 inches too short. I checked the box and they were labeled for a 2003-2004 4Runner, but I guess they boxed incorrectly. I emailed the seller and he apologized and sent me out another set immediately. This time they fit perfectly. I just wish I knew what vehicle these others visors fit, as I hate to toss a perfectly good set of $60 visors in the trash. I emailed Draw-Tite and they pretty much laughed and said that they have no way of telling which vehicle(s) they will fit.
In my opinion, I prefer the in-channel type primarily for appearance reasons. I have seen many vehicles where the 3M tape is sticking out the sides of the visor and looks really bad. If you would go for this outside fitment and take your time during the installation, they should look pretty good.
I haven't had any issues with the window closing with the in-channel visors, but when you open/close the window, you could hear a faint *sticky* noise. It sounds like the window pushes them further up than they want to be. This is one of those things that is tough to explain with words. However, once the window is down, it would take a good amount of pressure for them to fly out. They seem to be pretty secure.
There are a few options out there and if you are looking for the in-channel type, give draw-tite a shot. It wouldn't hurt to email them (or any company for that matter) and verify how they are mounted.
