Vera cruz vs. 4runner

Thinking of trading the 4runner (2007) Sr5 on a 2008 Vera Cruz (Hyundai) limited fully loaded. 38000 reduced to 29000 - still haven't negotiated my trade for the 4runner but I am sticking to my 4runner and 5000 - no higher. Reviews on the vera cruz are good and I would only do this since the limited is 9-10,000 off.

What's a Hyundai? :D

Do your homework to see what your 4Runner will be worth wholesale in your area. Appraise it using Edmunds.com and KBB.com. If you want to offer the 4Runner and $5K, then you're saying the 4Runner is worth $24,000 wholesale. Depending on what's on it, that could be a little high.

That doesn't mean much, I went there and read just as many, if not more, 4Runner complaints, granted theres alot more T4Rs on the road. The old addage "when I find something good I tell my friends, when I find something bad I tell everyone" applies here. But, it does rate higher by owners than the Highlander on Edmunds, which would be a better comparison.

My 06' T4R had 2 problems in the first year, one was major, hood paint peeled away on the first wash and had to be repainted, the 08' Hyundai Sonata I bought for my kid to go off to college in just turned 1 year old last month, it has had zero problems, and she put double the miles that I put on the T4R, they've come a long way. Funny, I remember getting ribbed about "quality" by people when I purchased a new 85' Supra. Damn that was a great car!

I'll bet redskinboy hates the T4R seats!? ;):

BTW Alaskaman, I see Redoubt blew its top again, hope you guys aren't getting it bad.

Well it's not my money and that would be the good news.........and yah Redoubt has a real quiet period airlines were good and no real ramping up and then BAM.........good pics on the Alaska Volcano Observatory site today.
 
1 is an awd crossover/station wagon , there other is a SUV/Truck chassis platformed 4wd.

Apples to Oranges , but if the Hunda fit's your needs better go for it , just don't expect it to do what the 4R can do .

My galpal :D Shelli just got a new Sante Fe , it's a very nice riding vehicle with awd , nice int. , nice room for her . (not to mention she is smoking hot make's the vehicle look even better driving down the road). My wife liked it also since Shelli let her drive it , but I put the KABOSH !! on that idea when she started thing about one.

She wants to get a Subaru Forester. I don't know anything about them either except it looks nice and subaru has been making awd vehicles forever.
 
My wife's boss has Hyundai that had to have the motor replaced with about 10k miles on it.

I think each car has to stand on it's own. There are lemons in all brands.

You may be over-estimating your vehicles worth right now. If it were a 4WD V8 fully loaded, it would be worth around the $20K mark (give or take a little). If it's not fully loaded, then you can go down from there. 2007 SR5's seem to range between $17k and $20K depending on mileage, condition, etc. This is also assuming your dealer will give you true Blue Book or Edmonds value for it, which most often they do not.

I would talk to the dealership about your offer first. You may not even need to put in much thought if they won't take your offer. You may be surprised how much money they ask on top of your 4Runner.

I appreciate your input guys - it was scary reading about all those problems but I also read reviews that were very good. I looked at the veracruz up close and personal on Saturday and I am not experiencing that "wow" factor that I should when looking at a car. Their offer was 31000 for the veracrus (msrp 37100) and 22500 for the 4runner. Still 4500 apart. Told them I cannot budge from the price so deal will probably will be done.

Still love my 4runner - will NOT just give it away and, oh by the way, the seats in mine are fine. Black leather in a silver SR5 - the only one you might see like that!!

I did not in any way mean to rain on your parade. when I started reading pages 1-10 on the vera cruz it was all good and then I saw as time went by people were really unhappy. i know that some have been unhappy with the 4Runner as well but thought that I should be a bud and give you a heads up................my daughter and her hubby have a sonata and they are very happy with it at about 15K.
 
It's all good. That's why I ran it by you guys - there is a reason we bought 4runners. I just need to be reminded of it once in a while.
 
it's a good forum...........good intel. I was surprised by one of the concerns on the Vera Cruz was the mileage though that is oftimes driver modulated....people who are happy with the vehicle really like it.
 
Do you need the room or the towing capacity of the Vera cruz? (Disclaimer: i know very little about the Vera Cruz...actually, close to nothing.)

If "no" to the above questions, then why not get a RAV4 or Honda CRV, which i trust more in terms of dependability and reliability. In addition, if you do sell the car in a few years, then the Honda and Toyota will fetch way more than any Hyundai (exception possibly with the Genesis).

IMHO, the ONLY Hyundai that i would consider is the Genesis. It is also the vehicle that Hyundai has put the most money and sweat in...therefore, it is likely Hyundai's best made vehicle.
