Wow, I'm back. Not too long ago I sold my green 96 5 speed... thought I'd buy something newwer like an FJ or newwer 4runner but missed the utility of 4 doors and manual transmission. Apparently I'm most comfortable with the formula the 3rd gen has so I'm back. The crazy part is I basically found an identical 4runner to my old one but this one is a 97 5-speed with 44k original miles. Only difference is that my old car had the rear diff locker... which I'll miss but atleast I'm back in a 5-speed. Just picked it up today in SF and I'm loving it. I'll try to take some pictures tomorrow during the daytime. She's by far the best one I've ever seen in person and I got it for a great price. I just spent the last 2 hours puting some stuff from my old runner back into this one to make her feel like home. This is gonna be dope.

Here is the old girl for now...

I will post a picture of my new one. You'll do a double take, my family did too.

*update*
Here's the new girl!

updated! I miss my vented sport hood and 18x9 BBS RW wheels. I think I'll go the same route and buy those wheels and hood again.
182246.jpg

I had put a sport hood on my original one... and a few other neat pieces. But as you can see I had super dented bumpers and a few scratches and dents here and there.
182308.jpg

You can't really see the dents in the bumpers really... but at different angles you can really see them.
182327.jpg

It also had scratches and dents here and there... but none of those are big enough to show up in pictures.

You can see the dents on the rear bumper.

Over all still a super clean car... with 87k miles at the time I sold her last year I got $12,500 for her from a local in Saratoga who bought it for his kid who was going to school at UC Berkeley.

man... already got a 16k offer for this new one. Colorado peeps are CRAZY for manual 3rd gens. So tempted, but what would I buy to replace it?!

16 G's a really good offer...get one with lockers again...but finding one with super low mileage is like finding a needle in a haystack.

Or get one with relatively higher mileage for a lower cost and get air lockers and bumpers, lift and wheels if budget still allows, etc. etc..

Or maybe just keep it and build it!

yeah but you'd make 6K i think that's more then enough money for some mods and heck you could even put a 0 mile engine in there for that price, i dunno that's a tough one man, 16K or a 44K truck, lol, really tough

Buy low sell high! Replace with another, and pocket the difference. I'd look at it like winning the lottery.
& yes, I guess we are crazy for the manny tranny here. I looked for months to find the right combination of price, condition, 5-speed, & locker. Miles weren't really a factor.

I say keep it. You're going to enjoy it for many years to come. And look at it as money saved, not money potentially lost.

Quite a few people have shown intrest in my 4runner so I decided to put it up for an amount that I wouldn't mind letting it go at. It's a great truck and I've even added a few things that I've collected over the years that would make it even better.

030433.jpg

Altimeter guage that matches the stock guages
030403.jpg

Front 2" hitch with a 9000 pound rating and tow loops (over built & rare)
030903.jpg

Security chip incase I leave it parked somewhere for a long period of time.
If you take the chip out nobody can start the car and drive it away.
030930.jpg

Nice Alpine CD player and speakers with great sound quality.
I will include the original deck if the buy wants it.
030944.jpg

As you can see, it's ULTRA clean and shows no visible wear signs.
030246.jpg

Steering wheel and shift knob leather is perfect and still very supple.
030236.jpg

No leaky rear axle seals and brand new spare tire with no undercaridge rust.
030822.jpg

It's so new even the keys look perfect and come with the ID tag just incase you want to order another set of keys.
I've even added an additional horn so when you honk it's quite a bit louder.

I had known about it for quite some time. My friend David in SF lived next door to the guy who owned it and I had offered him cash for it on many occasions. The guy always backed the car out of his garage on sunday mornings to wash/wax the car. He was getting up there in age and I knew that oneday he'd get sick of driving stick... recently he decided to let it go and called me, I made him some killer BBQ that day and he gave it to me for a screaming deal. I'm a professional chef and I knew he had a soft spot for food since he always comes over when I'm up in the city visitng my friends. I'd cook and we'd invite him over and make him the standard (joke) offer on the truck knowing I'd be denied and we'd laugh, have beers/food and chat. I think he just washed the car on sundays so we would know he was home and to invite him over for food. As soon as I drove up, he'd quickly finish and come over, but if I never showed up he'd take the whole day cleaning it with q-tips and waxing every little corner.

It was the pulled pork and tea/tobacco smoked duck that got him.

Put a set of my old wheels on today...

18x8.5+0 wheels... sits quite a bit wider than the stock +15 offset wheels

I'm thinking about cutting the center cap down so it's flush with the face of the wheel and doesn't stick out so much.
