I just bought a 97 4runner with 79k miles on it that some hillbilly repair shop did an engine swap in. The last owner drove it in for a "tune up" and they informed him the engine was shot, sounds fishy right off the bat to me. Has a 3.4l ever bit it at that low of mileage??? Come on, thats ridiculous. Well, anyhow they talked him into an engine swap and then couldn't make it run, they informed him the "security system was malfunctioning" and wasn't allowing the engine to start. At that point the owner lost faith in the shop that had it and picked up the truck. That is the point where I bought the truck.
I discovered that about half the fuses in the fuse box under the hood were blown, ecm fuse, head lights, etc. After replacing them I have no spark, and the fuel pump doesn't fun when I turn on the key. I'm starting to wonder if they cooked the ecm. Does this thing have a master relay hidden somewhere other than the fuse box? If it does id like to check it out.
