Very pleased with mileage...

Took the Runner on a trip a few weeks ago to Sedona, AZ from Las Vegas. All in all drove about 1000 miles. Averaged 22mpg (computational) across the entire trip. This includes some slow crawl 4-lo time or uphill runs. On the way home, i actually averaged some 24mpg and 440miles on a tank. Most of the trip was spent right at the posted speed limit or under while drafting off semi's.

Shes gett'n a bit up in her age but you cant argue with that kind of mileage.

Wow, that's damn respectable! I see you have exhaust & CAI. What size are the Toyo's? With mpg like that I'd have guess 195/100/17 running at 100psi :lmao: :bigok:

On a good day going back to school going about 65 I have been able to get 26 for an extended period of time. They are actually really good if your not going 80. good to hear about the 440 miles on a tank. thats awesome

Great numbers! But I don't get what it is that's getting up in age. My '90 had 205,000 when I sold it to a friend and it has over 350,000. My '00 has over 151,000 miles and she's still my primary tow vehicle. I don't get rid of ANY of my Toyota's until at least 200,000 miles.

I've only had my 4th gen for 1 month and 1300 miles but the computer said about 22 MPG but hand calculated it was 18-19 MPG. The hand calculated value is the correct value, anyway.

My '00 SR5 used to get about 22 MPG highway but it's down to 19 due to the AT tires.

So, for those long trips in good weather I take my V8 Mustang GT which gets a true 24-26 MPG highway. LOL!

Thanks for the comments.... as for the age comment. She's my baby...so seeing close to 50K on her is a real shock since i remember taking her home for a 24 hour test drive with 6miles on the odo!

CJ3- The CAI and Exhaust really have helped..Since the install of both, along with swapping the OEM fluids to Royal Purple (except the tranny thus far), I have seen anywhere between a 1-3mpg improvment. This is pretty amazing considering that I drive my Runner just like I drive my GTO. The Toyo's are Proxes S/T (275/60/17) running about 36-37psi.

CRD- I agree that if you stay close to the speed limit, the mileage is great. I actually saw as high as 29mpg on the Trip computer before hitting some of the uphill sections and returning back to vegas for more stop and go driving.


Nuke- Like I said at the top...shes my baby. Im well intent on keeping her till she dies. No vehicle has ever been more reliable or had a lower cost of ownership than this one for me. Just like your Mustang, my GTO (if you stay off of it) will return about 24mpg...though with mods done to it, its certainly dropped off from the 26-28 i used to get. Gotta love having 450hp and getting 25mpg!

AZ Gas helps with that too....they still use MTBE! none of the ethanol to lower the btu/lb value. Glad you had a good time....post some pics of your journey!

Can't wait to see the pics. I love Sedona. Great place to hit the trails. I spent a week out there and really noticed a difference in the mpg. I want my MTBE back!!! Oh well...

Just an update on things...

a month now has passed and im currently seeing about 18.7 or so on each tank. In mostly city driving im getting about 330miles a tank.


maybe its because of my driving, maybe its because of something else, but im totally digging it.

gotta love a v8 that gets close to 20 mpg in the city. The OBC has read as high as 25 mpg on the highway! holy crap!

even if someone says, "i do 25% city and 75% highway" it still doesn't tell you much

huge difference between driving in a city in Michigan and a city in Texas.

i totally understand...though im taking the same route to and from every day. so the routing variable is really thrown out.

I know that there are many variables...but im going to say that there is something going on (im starting to think its my oil choice and additive choice). This is my first OCI with Auto RX and Marvel Mystery Oil in mixed with my Valvoline SynPower 10w30. After a UOA, Ill be interested to see if the viscosity has sheered to that of something lower than a 30wt oil. This could explain alot.

im going to keep enjoying it and keep searching into it.
