Very Strange

I have had some strange problems with my IPAQ 6315 since I purchased my new 4Runner. Every once and a while the unit will be in a completly reset condition with all of my settings and data gone. I thought it was random until I noticed that this happens only when I have placed the unit in the centre console or in the little indent in front of the center console.

I wonder how big the magnet is in the inverter and if it is located right where the plug is.

I did a test and sure enough if I put my device there it gets wiped.

Does this make sense? Anyone else with the same problem?

I have a 1945 and place it there all the time. I haven't had any problems. Although I drive a V6. Maybe it's a V8 thing? Something isn't right...

Does your V6 have an Inverter with the 110V in the console?

This makes at least a little sense from an engineering POV. I don't know about the specific technology used in the 4Runner's inverter, but it likely involves a transformer and some high currents (though perhaps no magnets as such), and they could be close to the place you set your IPAQ.
