Very weird rear side marker issue.

Just bought a few months ago an 08 4runner v8. Come to find out I got screwed by the dealer. Had great repair history from a toyota dealer but for some reason it was having batteries changed about every 3 months. This vehicle did sit for long periods so I thought that was the issue ( 116000 miles in 15 years, 3000 in the last 4 years ). My GF looked out the window the other night and it looked like the rear side markers were on. I attributed that to the outside lights on the garage reflecting on them. I went out today and thet WERE lit, dimly but lit on both sides. Only the rear side markers. This vehicle had alot of rodent damage before I got it that was repaired with new harnesses from toyota. I traced all the wiring and no other damage.

Any ideas? Anyone ever had this issue?

They are led.

I doubt a couple of LEDs that are on only dimly would drain your battery...best bet now is to get a multimeter with an amps and milliamps setting, and starting at the fusebox try and identify where the current is going on a fuse by fuse basis. The probes/leads of the meter need to be 'in line' for this test, unlike volts where you can measure without disconnecting anything.

UPDATE:

found the issue. It ended up being a bad ground on the remote starter/alarm system. There were 3 grounds tied together but the mounting location was poor. It looks like it broke in the past and someone prior to me relocated it to another spot. I made a new spot and the lights went off and BONUS, I now have a working remote starter.
