I don't care for the "veterans" section or 100 post count gate a ideas.
Nothing requires someone to read or participate in any thread.
You can always use your browser's Back button if you don't like the content.
If you want to help someone with an answer fine.
If you want to BS in some off topic thread fine.
If you have nothing useful to contribute fine.
Just don't complain about it
Requiring a minimum post count for something will do nothing but generate more "clutter" people are complaining about. There's enough post count whores here now without forcing newbies to do it. There's enough people responding to posts with "Well I don't know anything about (insert subject) but ..." or making consecutive 1 sentence posts to up post count. (Yeah, they can be consolidated and reduce that count.)
We want to attract people, not repel them with requirements.
A minimum before you can upload pics is something else, there's plenty of worthless pics in threads that just slow things down. Some kind of limits there might be useful.
A "Newbie" section with a well arranged compendium of FAQS on popular subjects has possibilities.
That's just my .02 for now, but as soon as I get my deposit back for some of these empty bottles there'll be more. :sleepy:

Agreed. It would be nice to filter newbies through that too, but I think many would just skip over it, but the new member section as it stands now is just kind of a meet and greet area. A "start here" section would be much more productive than an exclusionary veteran's section. I've heard the people speak and I agree - I just don't see it being something very productive. Maybe it would be a few conversations here and there when the other sections are quiet and I'm bored in class, but on the whole I think that it would be something that most members would kind of look down on. It would also encourage members to up their post counts which isn't what we need. I'm not saying I love the newb thread, but I will read them and depending on how I'm feeling or what the thread is, I'll make a choice to respond or ignore it, though I often know that the answer can be found at the top of the 4th gen page. There's no cure for laziness, it's still gonna happen no matter what we do, but I think targeting the new users with information might help. I still am fond of the idea of having a "New members questions thread" where they can post and it would result in the creation of less threads.

You already have a special section to avoid the mindless noob chatter about tire sizes and Plasti Dip, it's called the Off Topic forum.
What purpose would a veteran section serve aside from stroking the ego of those who measure their self-worth based on post count? This scenario is no different than what I've seen on any other forum. Luckily the ones who run the sites are always able to look past the snobbishness and see the bigger picture - doing this sends the WRONG message. And that message is "your post count says a lot about you, like you're not good enough to socialize with the rest of us".
And like I also said, this is a bolt-on forum. Just because you bought a few off-the-shelf parts and bolted them on earlier than new members makes you no better or smarter. You bolted on some coilovers back in 2010 but now you can't be bothered with the idea because it's "too mainstream" since it's old news for you? Please. Show me the guy with the SAS'd, geared and locked 2014 with dual cases, 40" tires, hydro assist and an exo-cage. I will PAY a membership fee to make sure he gets his own sub-forum.
It may be easy to get on that high horse, but the fall is a b1tch.

I think it's a great idea, but it's become obvious to me now that it can't be general knowledge or people will get butthurt. We'll just have to be better than the new guys in secret. Should it be a hidden forum on this board, or should we start a new forum where we can get on our high horses without interference from the noobs?

Oh yeah, and it had an uncensored section for premium members who helped support the site financially. Unfortunately that site is no more. RIP WRXFanatics.com...:rip:
