Vibration after lifting King coils 1in...

I got Kings a few years ago with 650 springs. Immediately after installing them, I had a strong vibration up front. After checking everything, most people said it was my CV's. So I dialed the coil hats all the way up, to give the lowest lift possible (w/265 tires). Vibration went away.

Since then I've swapped both CV's for brand new (highest quality Napa ones), and swapped in a new to me 4.30 front diff. No vibration at all... now I moved to 295's, so I set the King coils to the exact spot they came from King. Netted about 1in lift on the front.... vibration is back, not as bad, but it's back.

WTF.

....diff drop to solve problem??

I had the same issue with my Toytec ultimate coilover Kit. It is likely the CV angle and your driver side needle bearing.

1. Diff drop will help.
2. Also lowering the suspension helped.
3. Regrease U joints front and rear driveshafts.
4. Find a curb. Pull up perpendicular to it. Put the truck in reverse and hit the curb going 5 mph. Do this a few times. It ensures that you compress the shaft and the grease you just placed spreads evenly.
5. Rebalance your wheels and tires. Sometimes the weights fly off.
6. Alignment appropriate for new height.

I recommend going 1” body lift and dropping your front suspension 1” to relieve the CV angle to a larger degree and maintain your ride height. You will have a forward rake. Looks better that way IMO anyway.

After all of the above the vibration is minimal. Barely noticeable. My next step is to install East Coast Gear Supply driver side needle bearing replacement. I will do this when I replace my CV axles.

Timmy the toolman made a great video demonstrating the play in the driver side CV axle following a lift, and the needle bearing replacement bushing install from ECGS.

If you are like me and not ready to tackle the ECGS bushing install just yet, do the above interventions first. You will find the vibration from 55-65 mph will become tolerable. Initially the vibration was forcefully rattling every interior panel. Now it’s barely there.

It sounds like you need this video.

Thank you Tim! You are the man! I wish you were local. I would be bugging you every weekend

I don't think it's the needle bearing, because it did exactly the same thing on two different diffs... first my 4.10, and now my 4.30.

When I initially put the lift on, I had two different shops do the alignment, and still the vibration. It was only when I lowered it that it went away.

I lifted the coils last night, and put brand new tires & wheels, mounted and balanced by Discount Tire.... which is about the best shop locally to do balance.

I hadn't thought about greasing the driveshaft though... and honestly, I can't remember the last time I did grease them!! So that will be doing that today, thanks for that! ...and I was actually at the alignment shop when I remembered paying out the ass before having it aligned twice at new lifted height, then again, after lowering it. So I postponed it, until I figure this out.

I had this vibration on my prior 02 lifted on Toytec coilovers as well. Just to clarify, the needle bearing doesn’t need to go bad per se. It’s a shitty design from Toyota that doesn’t accommodate a steep CV angle. When you have a moment check out mtbtim’s video linked above. He explains what’s going on. There is a good amount of play with the stock needle bearing. This is demonstrated in that vid. The ECGS bearing doesn’t allow for the same degree of CV axle play.

The only solutions are to reduce the CV angle, (install a diff drop AND reduce your lift height). Or replace the needle bearing with the ECGS unit... which they say only needs to be done once for the life of the vehicle.
