Vibration and odd sound at 50mph

Hey guys.
Don’t recall my other 5th gens making a slight “droning” (low pitch humming sound) sound and vibration while holding gas steady at around 50 mph & 1400RPM's. If I let off the gas it disappears immediately. It’s only occurring in 5th gear. Haven’t contacted the dealer yet, just curious what others think.

Mine just started this too...

I have a 2017 SR5 that I bought brand new and it just started doing something similar in the last week or so. I'm finding that 35-45 mph is the spot where I hear the droning and can feel a slight vibration in the driveline. Once I accelerate past that it's not noticeable. My truck only has 28k miles and from what I've found so far it may be a needle bearing issue. Going to schedule an appointment to take it to the dealer soon.
 
My 14 only under certain conditions on the highway at cruising speeds would make a slight howling sound. After I changed the differential fluid too Mobil 1 it went away.

Let me know the end result after taking it to your dealer! I’m waiting until my next oil change to bring it up:)
 
I just had a similar issue that also turned into a grinding sound, I took it to the dealer yesterday and it turned out to be the needle bearing in my front differential. The service manager said that Toyota has a Tech Service Bulletin about this issue and everything was covered under warranty and fixed all my issues, wheel shake and vibration, grinding during braking and random grinding while driving at slow speeds, not as noticeable at high speeds.

yep, needle bearing

schedule an appointment and tell them in advance you want to do a ride along with a tech so you can demonstrate the issue otherwise they won't be able to hear it and will blame your tires

They asked me to stay and do a ride along but I had to leave to go in to work, thankfully they were able to identify it. Mine was pretty bad and obvious though
 
sorry guys can you please explain how to test if you have this needle bearing issue? I randomly get wheel vibration around 50mph on my commute but it goes away at higher rpms. I thought this was normal for lifted/larger tires and on 5th gen 4runners?

The needle bearing is a noticeable grinding sound and feeling in the steering wheel and brake pedal, the sound goes away when you put the vehicle into 4HIGH
 
My droning sound and vibrations seems to be getting worse. Mines a Limited so I’m not sure putting it into 4hi locked matters or not but I tried it anyway and nothing changed. Taking it to dealer Monday.
 
Any updates on this issue?

My 15’ Limited does the same around 50-55mph around 1500rpm, can feel the vibration in the steering wheel. Does not reoccur at any other speed.

Its at the dealer as we speak. Took a drive with the tech and he noticed it too. They are looking into it. Interesting that yours does this too. Mine is most noticeable at just over 50 mph with the foot on the gas (not coasting). I can feel a vibration through the floor and on the steering wheel as well as the droning sound. If I let off the gas, it disappears.


Would you say this is what happens on yours?

Yes, the exact same thing. It doesn’t happen at any other speed though.
