Vibration at 55 MPH or more

I have a 99 4Runner 2WD Limited. It has 160K miles. It currently has Michelin tires, but they are all well worn out. I will have them replaced in a week. But, the car has a slight vibration showing at the steering wheel when driven over 55mph or more.

Anyone know what maybe causing the problem?

A vibration can be the result of MANY different things. First, your wonr tires might very well be the culprit. Wait until you replace them and see if it is still there. Have your new tires balanced properly. If it is still there, have an alignment performed. If it is still there, you might need pull the driveshaft and rebuild/lube the u-joints.

The fact that it doesn't start until around 55 mph, and you feel it in the steering wheel leads me to suggest that it is from the tires either out of balance, worn, or out-of-round. If you feel it coming from the under the body, it could be a motor mount or u-joints going bad. Vibrations can be caused by many things, and it sometimes takes looking at several things until you finally eliminate it, ...., even a cylinder mis-firing can cause the vibration at 55-60, it took me forever to figure that one out.
