Vibration between 65 and 75ish MPH?

Just picked up the 4-Runner this past Saturday. During my test drive, I noticed some vibration, wrote it off as a wheel balancing issue and asked the dealer to take care of this. Dealer said they balanced both front tires, and to let them know if the problem still exist.

Well, it does... I think. It doesn't happen all the time though. I've only got a 100 miles on it, so I'll spend some more time this week getting an idea on what it really is. But, I did recall reading something on this forum about a vibration issue and there being a TSB fix for it. Can anyone shed some light on this for me?

Well, that just sucks. Now I'm wondering if I should bring it back, or just keep it and hope a solution comes out soon. Love all the other aspects of the 4-Runner....

Luckily, my vibration is very subtle. Doesn't occur all the time, and only around 70 MPH. Looking around the vehicle, my initial take was a possible vibration on the guard on the underside of the engine, just about under the transmission shifter. It hangs out like a big tongue, I wonder if that gets a whipping effect at high speeds from the air streams.
 
Just make sure that you get an alignment, which may solve your problem. You get one free alignment for the first 12K miles.
 
Welcome to the pride of ownership. No fix as of yet. Make sure you log onto nhtsa.gov and provide info for your complaint. The more grumbling-hopefully the sooner the fix!
BTW, alignment, balancing, rotation, synthetic oils, michelin vs. dunlop...none of it makes a darn bit of difference, so save your time and money!
 
Thai - has there been cases where an alignment has solved the issue? I would venture a guess that if this is true, that there is one end of an alignment window that works better than the other. (ie. camber or caster setting working better at one end of an allowance range versus the other)

jtb71 - Are there any reference points for using on the nhtsa.gov site for the complaint? Is there a common description to use perhaps?

Overall, I'm not too worried. It's an excellent vehicle overall, robust and solid design. I really like it. Luckilly, this vibration is very small. However, I have to admit, I don't like it. Vibrations such as this can cause premature wear on other parts too.
 
Scott, you get one FREE alignment for the first 12k miles...so use it! Go to your local Toyota dealer and get it done. Make sure they re-balance your tires (if not done already). Your 4runner could be vibrating because of a misalignment and not because of the infamous problem...you will never know until you eliminate the other causes.

Until further notice, this vibration problem is a "diagnosis of exclusion." This means that you will need to make sure that nothing else is wrong before coming to this "diagnosis." Also, it's always nice to show Toyota that you have tried every solution to fix your problem.

Has Toyota always done an alignment for free in the first 12k miles-- I'm getting close to 12k miles. I am not experiencing anything out of the ordinary-- and I'm an "if it ain't broke don't fix it" kind of person-- but you've got me wondering if I should have my alignment checked. Friends had all kinds of alignment issues with their 2001 SR5 when it was new, so they had warned me to keep a look out for odd tire wear and vibrations.
 
Just call up your local service department for info. It is pretty much standard on most car brands.
