Vibration under acceleration in "AWD" after 2" lift

Hi all,

I have a 2000 4wd SR5 (with the multimode transaxle) with 154,000 miles. I just put on a OME spring/shock package that lifted me about 2" and now, if I'm in AWD mode and I accelerate hard the truck feels like it's about to fall apart.

I've searched and read a few threads that suggest U-Joint. Any other ideas since it's just when the front diff is engaged?

Thanks

um... a 2000 SR5 didn't come with multi-mode, it is strictly a limited benefit.

so if you are in 4wd with your SR5, on any pavement, I suggest 'STOP' and only use 2wd.

IF you have a limited... I'll let other chime in while I ponder and think about it.

Like SnowLizard said, something doesn't add up because I have a 2000 SR5 and I do not have multi-mode. But, you can drive on dry pavement in Hi 4 for a little while without causing any damage. I've accidentally done it coming off a trail a couple times and nothing happened. What you wouldn't want to do is do a bunch of tight turning on pavement because there would be no slippage in the tires and you would experience binding. I don't know how to technically describe how our differentials work so I'm not even going to try to describe what's happening when you're turning while in 4 wheel drive on dry pavement. But, I'm sure somebody on the forum can describe what exactly is happening.

Getting back to your issue, there is a definite possibility it's a u-joint causing what you're experiencing, because after the lift, the u-joints are now operating at a different angle than before thus wearing in a different spot on the u-joint and maybe the joint was close to failing and this change was something it couldn't handle.

It would help if you could describe in more detail what you exactly mean by saying it feels like the truck is falling apart. You mention vibrations in the title of your thread but are you hearing anything? A little more description might help. Maybe even video what you're hearing in the cab while you're driving.

It's a transfer case. And if you have a 2000 SR5 with multimode, then there is a story behind it.

you're right, transfer case, my other forum is the baja bug forum, sorry! I'm 100% certain it's multimode. I have to push a button to lock the center diff after pushing a button to go into 4wd. I'm also certain that was standard after 2000 on 4wd models. Mine is a 2001, another typo.

Anyway alignment was done right before lift and it doesn't do it if in 2wd only.

yes, vibration. Very similar to driving on rumble strips.
