vibration

2wd. been having this issue for a while. i feel it through the seat. i am suspecting the trans but don't know. i needed to replace drive shaft U joints so i did. problem still present, as it was before replacing. tires were worn so i replaced them this week. i thought that might have solved the issue but did not. vibration is still there. getting up to 70 and beyond the problem starts. i have read a while ago about cracking flywheels. i'm thinking maybe that has happened and causing the vibration. perhaps the trans is going out. don't know. anyone have this type of issue before or currently? it is not a tire issue, or driveshaft issue as everything is balanced properly. would the rear end cause this?

all good. all these guys here and no reply as to what the problem could be? it's been ongoing and i can't find it or find info on this problem.

Stock height or lifted? Driveline angle could be problem. I have the same problem after lifting my 2wd. I also think my transmission tailshaft bushing is worn out causing some play in the driveshaft

Does it happen within a certain RPM range? Mine vibrates through 2500-3000 rpm, I've read that it may be an injector not getting enough fuel but it is similar to the feeling you are having.

I'm currently having a vibration issue and highly suspect it's related to the tie rod ends. Might not be your issue (or mine even) but it's somewhere else to consider.

Try greasing the slip joint in the rear driveshaft. That can sometimes cause a vibe, but you cannot feel movement in the slip by hand.

I had a problem with vibration a few thousand miles after buying mine. The tires still had plenty of life but took them in to get balanced. It was not a big name shop more of an old gas station 1 man gig, but local. He balanced them, looked the rig over and took it for a drive. vibration better but not gone. He said to get them road force balanced. He could not do it with his old equipment.
Anyway, took to get road force balanced, at a big shop, vibration gone. Road force balance is not a everyday thing tires shops do, and cost a bit more money.

When I got my current KO2's (10ply) they had a bit of vibration, but I expected it with the aggressive tread and 10 ply ( I drive a lot of back gravel roads, thus my choice to go 10 ply), however, when I went in for the normal re-balance rotation ( as part of the tire buy) at a different Costco, they also lowered the air pressure form 38 to 36. Does not sound like much, but it seemed to help. Oddly enough, the other day I swung into Costco ( the original one) they put them back at 38 and I noticed it was stiffer, felt more road bumps and vibration. I dropped them back to 36.

no lift. shaft is good.

manual or auto tranny?

My 5th gear has crazy vibration between 62mph and 70mph. If i downshift to 4th at the same speed the vibration goes away.

I also had crazy vibrations from my auto tranny before i swapped. would happen at idle only when in gear, if i switched to neutral or park it would stop... Turned out to be my torque converter.

Also had a bent rear axle shaft, my friend was driving behind me one day and noticed. got home, put it on jack stands and put it in gear... sure enough wobble

If you suspect tires then rotate to see if the vibration moves

Could be unbalanced driveshaft but that normally isn't the case unless its been bent somehow.

Check all your U joints thoroughly. Ive had a Bad double cardan/CV joint before, can be hard to spot, gotta shake em like crazy or get someone to go forward to reverse while your under there looking. They say they are unserviceable but I've serviced one before, found the part on ebay i think :)

auto, and that is about where i start to feel it. idle is ok. what was wrong with the converter? i'm reaching 300k, so it's possible this stuff is going out.

Don't mean to hijack the thread, but I also have the same issue as OP and yours. 2002 2WD, bone stock. Vibration starts right around 65mph then goes away past 72mph. I'll be draining and filling my diff fluids as well as ATF and power steering this weekend... hoping it all goes away.

If not, I'll have to learn how to inspect my suspension and U joints like you suggested.

My wife's 2000 does this exactly.

Almost 100% sure that's your driveshaft. I have no vibration yet, but I have a "humming" noise at that speed. It's not bad enough for me to fix though.

P.S. I've replaced over the years every steering component and all tire/wheel components with no change to the noise.

mine just happened and I'm at 375k. not sure what was going on internally but once i got the converter out and by itself you could shake it and hear some stuff rattling around in there. Way more rattling than it shoulda been, enough for me to be confident that was the issue all along. The vibration at idle was somewhat intermittent, sometimes much worse than others and like i said, only in gear while stopped, not in neutral or park when there was no load. For a while i was convinced it was motor mounts.

where in florida are you? on the interstate i had to leave it at 70. anything higher, it will start groaning and vibrating and i can feel it throughout the floor, seat, shifter, etc. not good.

As northwest as it gets! Not even florida by mosts standards... Lol. Pensacola.

Yeah my 5th gear vibration is a pain but im pretty sure my rebuilt junkyard tranny is the culpret so im just dealing for now until i can find a spare r150f to rebuild the right way :)

Sounds like driveshaft

I had very similar symptoms to what a lot of posts in this thread are describing - speed-dependent vibration at highway speeds, that got worse to the point it was a loud 'humming' from the quick vibrations above 70mph or so.

My problem turned out to be a driveshaft issue - I just replaced the driveshaft with one from a junkyard, and the problem completely went away. I'll point out, in my understanding there are actually two potential problems with the driveshaft - one being the U-joints, but the other being the rubber seal that connects the front to back (on 2WD like mine this does not slide). My rubber seal looked extremely worn, cracked, etc, so I just replaced the whole driveshaft and it's smooth as butter again.

This. If the U-joints are tight, it is the shaft itself. There is no slip joint on the shaft - the slip yoke is on the transmission output.

The driveshaft has two parts, coupled by rubber that wears out over time. My 2WD shaft lasted until around 240k miles before the rubber section deteriorated. A complete replacement shaft fixed it 100% Now that I'm 4WD, it is up for sale - very low mileage... *hint hint*
