Victory 4x4 poor powder coating

This is the first winter I’ve had this bumper on, I contacted victory 4x4 and was basically told too bad they don’t warranty powder coating. I’ll never buy from them again and that’s too bad because I really do like this bumper and planned on getting the add ons.

It's hard to tell from your picture... but it looks like the bumper is damaged/deformed. Powder Coating does not stay on well when the material is deflected/deformed. Can you confirm it is or isn't deformed/deflected/bent?

I ran an engineering project for some steel plates that are crimped during the final step. Powder Coating just doesn't do it. Zinc Nickel Plating or some sort of diffusion process works much better.

Don't get me wrong, i would be just as upset as you if i spent good $ on the bumper and it looked like that a year later. If that part is expected to be hit and potentially be bent, Victory made a poor engineering decision to use powder coat.

That bumper is in factory condition as far a structure goes. That’s another piece of the vehicle behind the bumper, whole bumper is covered in rust and powder coat peeling and bubbling up. I can’t seem to load the other photos for some reason. If you follow the rust line that’s the rear of the bumper

Sand blast and recoat with a bedliner, looks like surface rust so it shouldn't be to big of a deal.

That looks like small damage to coating on the bumper caused it
I’ve had mine 2 winters not a blemish

I'm glad we don't use salt on the roads here. Vehicles sure take a beating from that stuff in snow country.

I too like the Victory 4x4 product, but not so much confidence in there powder coat.

From looks of it on your pic I'd say steel wasn't prepared correctly for final step of powder coating. It is likely sat too long unpainted and had oxidation formed which prevented good bond of powder coat to metal. Good company should stand by quality and reliability of their product. Call operations director (VP Daryl Hutson) or CEO (BRIAN MEYERS) and request partial credit or full replacement (Prepare to pay big $$$ for shipping if you go refund route). I'd just get part credit for troubles and move on. Keep in mind it is a small company with few employees.

Agreed. With the angles/corners of a lot of these fab parts it's almost impossible to get a good coating on them that lasts. A good rattle can job is the way to go. Strong and touches up easy.

Based on the pattern of the flaking, that started at the back edge of the bumper. This is very common for companies that use an oxygen or oxygen mix will cutting on a laser table since oxygen doesn't cut as clean as you might think. If that scale isn't removed before powder coating, your powder coat will begin to flake off pretty quickly. A small chick from a rock will then allow moisture to enter, and that'll cause the bubbling/flaking you're seeing today.

I would ask them if they cut with oxygen, oxygen/nitrogen mix, and pure nitrogen. Pure nitrogen will give you a clean edge, oxygen not clean, and the mix will be in the middle.
