Video input to the factory navigation unit!

Has anyone tried the following unit from PAC?:

The VCI-X claims to be able to display video on the factory navigation display.

I am currently using the AUX-POD from them to get audio into the factory nav unit and it works great. I can even use the steering wheel controls to move up/down tracks!

I was also looking into getting the AUX POD. Are you able to plug anything else into the converter? Does it have any extra RCA inputs to accomodate a satellite radio?

Lots of people have added video to NAV equipped Lexus IS300 with similar units to the PAC one listed. I don't recall any of them using the PAC units.

It looks like they are an excellent company with a wide range of product offferings.

There are no additional inputs for audio, but it appears to be the same unit they use for aux input. I bet you can put some kind of switch in there to choose what you want to hear. Give them a call, I bet they can take care of it.

Nope. I don't know of anyone on here that has successfully added video to the Nav. Plenty of interest and more and more options are popping up, but I don't know of anyone with it installed. Please post about it, if you decide to. Do you know how much it would cost? How much was your ipod interface setup?

It is currently selling for $159, but you also need to get the cd changer wiring harness from Toyota.

I need to get a wiring diagram of the inputs on the back of the nav unit before I decide to go ahead with the video mod. I need to find a way to keep from having to cut the factory wires.

Oh, and thanks for the info on your iPod setup. I already have the "cd changer wiring harness from Toyota" from my cd changer that I could probably abandon if I get the ipod setup.
 
No, it does not show the song titles on the nav screen. I wish it did!

But for the money, it is still a great deal. Other venders like Blitzsafe still do not even have any AUX in for the nav equiped Toyota's.

The steering wheel controls for track up and down are nice to have.

are there any mp3 cd changers out there for the 4runner... and do they have the text come out on the dvd screen?

i'm thinking either ipod or the 6cd changer right now... and both are around the same price.

Is this assumption approximately right? A 6-disc changer couldn't even store as much as an ipod mini.

What would be sweet is a VideoPOD linked to the NAV.
 
correction, the ipod setup would cost a bit more since you need the aux cable for the ipod itself

im saying if there was an mp3 cd changer i would prefer that so i can still use cds, and also use cds with mp3s burned on it.
 
Ipod - Sounds Good?

Mike your posting indicates you are happy with the Aux Pod. Does it function through and FM Modulator or is it more like a direct input. How do you think the sound quality compares with the sound from a CD.

I have a couple of trucks and in the other ones, I just ripped out the factory stereo and put in an Aiwa with an iput jack in the front. Sounds great.

I have an 03 with Navigation. I was just about rip out the navigation system because I could't hook up the Ipod and I really like a selection of tunes when I drive. Seems nuts but the tunes were more important to me than the nav. When I off-road I use a Garmin anyway.

I am happy with the sound quality (as good as CD), but I have run into a few other issues.

1. The steering wheel controls no longer work
2. Removing the key used to put the iPod in standby, but that no longer works.

They have sent me two replacement units, and both have been DOA.

Aux Pod Update

Based upon your postings, I got the Aux Pod and ordered it with the AB-Toy cable. Initally, I was told that if have the 6 disc CD changer I can use that cable and did not need another one. Well that turned out to be crap. In any event, I got an additional "Y" cable from Toyota for $17.95 (logjam seemed to want $39.95). Initially that did not work either but then we unplugged some cable in the back and now IT WORKS GREAT.

To keep things in perspective, I am only on day2 but if this thing continues to work as good as it has been, I am going to sell my 6 disc. CD changer as I no longer need it.

Do you know what cable you unplugged from the back? Was it in the back of the dash, or in the back of the 4Runner?

I just attempted to install the aus-pod and no go on my 04 4R LTD with NAV. Andy ideas? And how do you select the ipod? Via the CD changer? hitting it twice? Anyone? please help! I want my iPod!
