Vinyl Wrap (photoshop help)

So I have an interesting opportunity and want to take advantage, but need some help. I have a really good friend in the vinyl wrap business who wants to use a new type of vinyl he has not worked with before. It wont be anything fancy with graphics or any printed material, but rather just solid colors to choose from. He asked if he could use my 4Runner to practice on and to pick a design keeping in mind it will mainly be straight lines involved. I have decided between black and red vinyl for obvious reasons, but am at a loss as to the design and look I want.

I know I would like the hood black for sure, but that's about as far as I have gotten. He is going to be ordering the material soon and wanted some input/photoshop rendering of some ideas you guys might have. Here are some pics of the ride and let me know what you think!!

Thanks in advance for the help!

IMO a matte black would look sick with the line-x bumpers. Whatever you do, make sure he does the roof rack rails too. It currently throws everything off. Again, just my opinion. Make sure you post pics of the final product. Good luck

yeah, def matte black and wrap or plastidip the rack. Not sure what your style is, but huge "4"s spanning the doors or "4 X 4"s and perhaps double stripes or stripes that widen for the hood might look good.

Since you said solid color with no design, I would say matte black to match what you have already. Do the hood, and then do the sides. I would do the sides horizontally the same level as you have your bumpers, straight across.

Dude, please don't get anything corny like 90s throwback splashy graphics, huge silly 4x4 decals, or anything that says "4RUNNER" or "TOYOTA". Just pick a solid color to go with. Flat black hood for sure, and just a solid basic color for the rest. Maybe a nice burnt orange, if that's your style. Or a lime green if you're feeling like driving a super ostentatious vehicle.

Your junk looks all sorts of dumb with the stock bumpers colored black and the factory red paint everywhere else. It would look dumber with a black hood. It would look REALLY frickin' dumb with bedliner black bumpers and a black wrapped hood and red everywhere else. Like, spastic-five-year-old-with-a-rattlecan dumb. It would look slightly less dumb with a vinyl black wrap to go with your bedlined bumpers, but the texture mismatch on stock parts will still clash.

It might look pretty cool if you got rid of the bedliner and just wrapped the truck in a matte black or dark red. But the bedliner is dumb.

No. Just stop, now. I like what you've done so far, but any more will be serious overdo.

No hood, no stripes, no decals ..... nada. Oh, except for the roof rails - they look like shit.

Remember, just because it's free does not make it right.

Thanks in advance for the help!

i fully agree with philsey, i really like what you have now with exception to the roof rails, skip all the rest and just have him wrap those. but if you are going to do it anyway, wrap all the red with solid red

quick question: what roof basket do you have up there?

If you are just looking to help him test the process, why not go OD green. It looked great on the FJ and I wont lie, I have always wanted that on a $runner. With the bumpers and black trim with a Military look I think it would be phenomenal. Definitely get the roof rails done in black. I kind of like what you have right now. It sets you apart. 100% you need to wrap or dip the roof rails to match though; that won't take but an afternoon.

I agree with some others that I definitely would not introduce another color/texture to the mix unless you are completely replacing one you currently have. If your buddy is willing to do the work I would have him wrap all the red in matte red. That way you still have two colors/textures but your paint is protected and the matte sets you apart further.

I remember wanting to do OD green way back when I was planning to dip my 4runner. Someone did do it and IMO it looks awful. I ended up going with a Satin Black mix.

Take off the crap running boards, lift it and paint the front and rear like his and i would fall over sideways with it. I also think the new Sand color on the pro would look good with the way he has the front and rear done on his.
I will concede that yours looks great but with the bumper setup you have the green could look awesome as well. I think the green on this one is a bit light.

If it's going to be free, why not try something different?? If you don't like it, he can easily take it off or get more practice with matte black. Just my .02

I only have the option of gloss, no matte unfortunately. Don’t worry, the roof rails will definitely be done! Will post pics of course! Thanks

This was my first thought and what I am leaning to. Would look nice as a 2 tone black matched up to the bumpers. Thanks

Haha, don’t worry, NO words, just simple, straight lines, solid colors, nothing fancy. Really considering the burnt orange actually. Like the look. Thanks

:wtf: Hey, to each their own. I love it and that’s all that matters, would Line-X the bumpers again any day. Didn’t know Line-X made you so angry. I was just looking for input on vinyl wrap, not Line-X, or bumpers. Thanks for confirming you’re a dick, no more input needed from you…..

quick question: what roof basket do you have up there?

It’s the Rola roof rack found here…..

Amazon.com: Rola 59504 Vortex Roof Mounted Cargo Basket: Automotive

Would love to do the OD Green, but I think it would just look odd when opening doors/rear hatch/ hood. If it was black or grey, not red paint, then I might consider.

I do appreciate all the input. I think I am going to start with the horizontal 2 tone black on bottom, black hood, and yes the roof rails for sure!! After that, just trying to decide on color, maybe a dark red, but leaning toward burnt orange. Will post pics once finished. Thanks again for all the input and please feel free to continue, just might change my mind…..

You asked for opinions, you got one. I'm sorry you're butthurt over it.
