Viper 5901 in 2001 4Runner

This may have been discussed earlier, but the search doesn't go back to far. There is also pieces of information all over, but I'm new to remote starters and I'd like some help figuring out what I need to install a Viper 5901 in my 2001 SR5.

From what I can tell, the Viper 5901 runs about $300 online. Would I need a bypass for my runner, and if so what kind?

My other big question is how difficult would it be to install myself? I do have a factory alarm, but I don't know what the options are as to leaving it in, or deactivating it. I am fairly confident with with electrical installs, but I have never done anything like this before.

All in all, I want a good two way remote start and I want to be able to make the back window go up and down.

Can anyone kind of glaze over the whole process so I have a better idea of the whole process.

Thanks!

I was thinking about buying that alarm/remote start. It looks really cool. I just couldn't justify spending over $400.

I would take it to someone to have them do it. I think if you do it yourself it voids the warrenty.

Buying on ebay = voided warranty.

Remote start systems are fairly easy to install. You can pick up a diagram online that gives you wire locations and their polarity from a few different sites. Remote start systems look pretty complex right out of the box, but for the 4 runner you'll use maybe half (if that) of the wires that in the harnesses.

As far as a bypass goes... If your key is just a plain metal key, then you don't need a bypass. Otherwise you do. I'm guessing you do since you say you have the factory alarm.

the rumor is is that the company who makes viper is goin down the drain. so if you do go with viper then dont buy it offline because of the warranty. the alarm install can be a headache but if you can get a diagram it will make ita a little easier but getting one is the trick part of it. some websites require you to be a dealer to access it.

DEI is not going down the drain. That is a very, very false rumor.

DEI is simply pulling off NASDAQ which they chose to do so themselves. They were paying 1.5 million just to be on NASDAQ, and because the company is only valued at less than 10 million, it made no sense to pay 1.5 million just to be part of NASDAQ. DEI is paying back their debt at a rate of 49 million a year... I would say they are doing OK!
