Virginia to Cali, route 66

Hey everybody, my three cousins and I are planning on taking a roadtrip to cali and back on route 66. We did it last year around december in a nissan rogue and had no problems. This trip will be in june to july. I have a 2000 4 cylinder runner with 170,000 on it, As soon as I got it I had transmission flush and changed the brakes rotoars and everything in between. Question is could I make it to cali and back with 3 passengers without any problems?? anyone done a similar trip? I appreciate any info or advice!

yup. if the maintenance has been done i don't see any points that would fail at the millage. ive got a 6cyl and make frequent trips back home 1300 miles. with no problems except a sore butt and an empty wallet.

when your on route 66 you dont think about a sore butt or empty wallet, especially when you end at the beach in Santa Monica, Cali . Thanks man, I appreciate the response!

i used to live right off or 66, well mainly highway 40 through gallup, NM to holbrook, AZ i lived in sanders AZ. well holbrook is a town EXACTLY like the little town in the movie cars. be sure to stop in winslow AZ and get a burger at this little restaurant (Darrel's Root Beer Stand
1001 N Williamson Ave, Winslow, AZ).
also stand on the corner in winslow arizona. (famous song)

if you stop in holbrook, go to farr's gas station and the A&W fast food restaurant right next to the rail road tracks on the bottom of the hill. my buddy owns it vince farr.

I can Proudly say I've seen all that! lol. 66 is just frickin awesome!! our last trip was from december 23rd to january 9th. I must say the Arizona 66 is THE BEST 66 out there! Its like something straight out of the movies. I have to see it again before I die, which is why were making the trip AGAIN this summer! so what I lose 2 grand while doing it lol...well worth it if you ask me! btw im gonna reference this post so I can tell your buddy Vince who sent me lol

I can imagine breaking down on RT 66 and the stories that would ensue would be memorable ones. Most of the time I worry about breakdowns on trips, they are usually when I have the family in tow. As much as it would be adventurous lol, I'd still like to go there and back without any problems lol. 66 nowadays is right beside highway 40 or 44...except for a patch that bends off into santa fe and through Arizona. Other then that, you can get help!

I'm definitely gonna remember this. It will be cool to see the look on his face when a complete stranger says the name of his friend lol. I might take a picture and upload it for you lol

Well I've not done the route 66 but have driven back home several times via Texas/Colorado/Utah/Nevada/California then down the PCH1 to Laguna Niguel and on the way back I take the boring direct route good old Interstate 10....hmmm never done it in a 4 cyl, but you shouldn't have any problems...good luck and have fun, don't let the cooler run dry.....:driving:

OH and don't go to CA on a month that has a Saint celibration in it...you won't find a vacant motel/hotel anywhere.......LOL... had to rough it sleeping in the 4runner....

I dont know if you noticed from my info, but I live in virginia, the first time we took the trip in the nissan rogue, we took 64 west to st. louis, then got on 66 all the way to cali.
